At least three people were killed on September 5 when a drone strike hit a truck of Iran-backed forces in the eastern Syrian governorate of Deir Ezzor.

The truck was reportedly struck outside a military site in the area of al-Sukariyah close to the town of al-Baukamal. The town is located just six kilometers away from al-Qa’im border crossing with Iraq and is known to be a key stronghold of Iran-backed forces.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based pro-opposition monitoring group, said that the drone strike killed two fighters, one of whom was a foreigner, along with a child.

Several similar strikes targeted Iran-backed forces in Deir Ezzor in recent months, with some blamed on the United States and others on Israel.

On August 11, six fighters were killed and at least 11 others were wounded when a drone strike hit a bus that was transporting them near al-Bukamal. The strike was blamed on the U.S. Iran announced a few days later that an advisor from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force was killed in a U.S. strike on Syria.

It’s worth noting that Iran-backed forces, specifically an umbrella group known as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, has been launching attacks against U.S. forces in both Syria and Iraq as well as against Israel since last October in response to the Israeli war on the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip.
