Two vehicles were destroyed close to the western Syrian town of al-Qusayr, which is located close to the border with Lebanon, as a result of suspected Israeli drone strikes on May 24 with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reporting the death of two fighters from Hezbollah.
“An Israeli drone fired two missiles at a Hezbollah car and truck near the town of al-Qusayr in Homs province, as they were on their way to Al-Dabaa military airport, killing at least two Hezbollah fighters and wounding others,” the London-based monitoring group said in a report.
Hezbollah has not yet acknowledged losing any fighters in the strikes. The SOHR, which is based in the United Kingdom and whose sources of funding are unclear, has been accused of exaggerating the effectiveness of Israeli strikes on Syria in the past.

Hezbollah has maintained a large presence in al-Qusayr as well as in the nearby inactive Dabaa Military Airport in the southwestern countryside of the Homs governorate since its fighters helped the Syrian military recapture the area from rebels in 2013. In the following years, several Israeli strikes hit sites of the group there.
After the strikes on al-Qusayr, Hezbollah announced that it had launched two attacks against Israel from southern Lebanon in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in the Gaza Strip and as a response to recent assassinations by Israel.
In two separate statements, the group said that its fighters destroyed a Merkava main battle tank in the al-Marj site and other targets in the Zar’it barracks using guided missiles. The Hebrew media didn’t report any casualties.
While the IDF didn’t comment on the strikes that targeted the alleged Hezbollah vehicles near al-Qusayr, it announced strikes against targets of the group in southern Lebanon.
Israeli fighter jets hit buildings used by Hezbollah in the towns of Odaisseh, Yaroun and Marwahin, the IDF said in a statement, adding that its troops also shelled areas near the towns of Matmoura, Hamoul, Rachaya al-Foukhar and al-Sawana with artillery to “remove threats.”
Lebanese media didn’t report any civilian casualties and Hezbollah didn’t announce any losses after the Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon.
Israel has significantly escalated its attacks on Syria since the outbreak of the war with the Hamas Movement in Gaza and the clashes with Hezbollah on the border with Lebanon last October, targeting mainly sites and personnel of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps which backs both groups.
