A 200-strong unit of the Military Police has returned to its base in the Russian Republic of Chechnya after successfully carrying out special tasks in Syria, a spokesman for the Southern Military District, Vadim Astafyev, announed on August 20.

“Ilyushin Il-76 military-transport planes airlifted 200 military policemen to Mozdok airfield in North Ossetia from Hmeymim airfield in Syria,” Astavyev said, according to the state-run news agency TASS.

TASS also noted that 35 planes and helicopters, flight officers, a medical unit of special purpose and military police officers had already returned to their home bases.
