On December 29, a booby-trapped motorcycle exploded near a checkpoint of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the northern entrance of the city of Manbij in the province of Aleppo, according to Syrian oppositions sources. Two members of the SDF’s security forces (Asayish) were killed in the explosion. Two others were injured.
Only few hours after the explosion, another booby-trapped motorcycle exploded in the northern entrance of Manbij, according to the SDF’s Manbij Military Council (MMC). However, the second attack didn’t result in any loses.
Local sources from Manbij reported that the SDF banned motorcycles inside the city following the attacks as a precautionary measure.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks in Manbij. However, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) might be involved in the attacks as some of its units warned the SDF in Manbij only days before the attacks. The FSA even attacked positions of the SDF around Manbij on December 27.
