In an unusual development, two officials of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) were assassinated in the northern Syrian town of al-Bab in two separate attacks.
On February 17, Mohamed al-Sedawi, was killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) that was planted under his vehicle blew up. The assassination took place near the mosque of Fatimah al-Zahra.
Al-Sedawi, also known as “Abu Khaled al-Sedawi,” was the public relation official of Jaysh al-Islam, one of the main factions of the SNA.

The next day, February 18, the second official, Fadi al-Khatib “Abu Hussien,” was killed in an identical IED attack that took place in the town center of al-Bab.
Al-Khatib, just like al-Sedawi, worked as a public relation official for a key faction of the SNA, the Suqour al-Sham Brigades.

No group has claimed responsibility for either of the assassinations, yet. ISIS and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces remain the two main suspects. Both sides carried out assassinations in Turkish-occupied areas in Syria in the past.
The two assassinations highlight the fragile security situation in all Syrian areas occupied by the Turkish military and its proxies.
