Российский военные провели чрезвычайно успешную высадку десанта во время учений «Центр 2019» в Оренбургской области. Из-за банальной ошибки в расчётах скорости и силы ветра, боевые машины, сброшенные с самолёта, разбились вдребезги о землю.

Two BMD-2 fighting vehicles were completely destroyed because of a mistake during the air dropp drill near the Russian city of Orenburg. The drill was carried out in the framework of the Center-2019 military exercises. The large-scale drills involve 8 states: Russia, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
Well I think we all knew that was going to happen , stay tuned there will be more action .
Accidents happen with all militaries – recall all those collisions the US navy had with cargo ships.
That never ends well for Navy ships. The cargo ships are much more robust.
These minor accidents do improve operational capability in the long run. That is what exercises are for.
I also recall a US military airdrop of vehicles that had the same result a few years ago :)
It is normally the US Army logistics who drop their equipment to death… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dR3QMStl7s0
Not wrong and that doesn’t include planes falling off ships.
Did someone die?
No.
Not yet.
It looked like a Bradley after someone switched on the interior light.
that’s why you drill :) someone is going to be running round with an ammo box over his head :)
The BMD-2 are heavy for air-transport and if the chutes and protective pallets are not strong the airdrop can result in accidents. These exercises are meant to improve operational capability of the Russian armed forces and occasionally accidents do happen. Russian record is very good compared to accident prone US forces.
Im not saying this is the point of drills, but mistakes and accidents are “ok”/tolerated during exercises, thats the point of exercises, to get experience that would prevent events like this in a sharp/real scenario.
The guy responsible is going to watch his rank hit the ground faster than those vehicles
Surely its better to investigate the cause first, rather than quickly jumping to conclusions, Damien?
They did it on purpose to lower pressure on their US counterpart dropping three Humvee the same way :P
