Last night, a group of Ukrainian attempted to cross the Russian border in the Navlinsky district of the Bryansk region. The operation failed. It was thwarted by Russian security forces.
Russian forces spotted the Ukrainian group near the border and opened fire. Forces of the Russian FSB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Russian Guard were reportedly engaged in the battle. The Ukrainian group reportedly included the military personnel of the Security Service, the Main Intelligence Directorate and Special Forces of Ukraine. All of them were well armed, including with Western weapons like M4 submachine guns, and had a large amount of explosives, grenades with them.
According to the FSB, Ukrainian saboteurs planned to carry out terrorist attacks on military and energy infrastructure facilities on the Russian territory.
As a result of the fighting, two Ukrainian saboteurs were killed. Five others were detained, three of them were wounded. On the other hand, two Russian guards were wounded.

The Ukrainian military attempted a similar operation in the Russian Bryansk on August 22. Then, the local Russian authorities claimed that an attempt of Ukrainian saboteurs to crass the border was thwarted.
