U.S. Acknowledges Six Service Members Were Wounded In Recent Northeastern Syria Attacks

Six United States service members have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries as a result of recent strikes by Iranian-backed forces in northeastern Syria, the Pentagon announced on March 30.

Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Ryder said that four service members suffered traumatic brain injuries at the coalition base near the city of al-Hasakah during a drone attack on March 23. Two others suffered injuries at the Green Village base, which is located within al-Omar oil fields in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside, during an attack on March 24.

“All personnel in the vicinity of a blast are screened for traumatic brain injury. So these additional injuries were identified during post-attack medical screenings,” Ryder told a news briefing.

The announcement further raises the casualties among American troops from strikes and counter-strikes in Syria last week to a total of 12 wounded. The attacks also killed an American contractor and injured another.

The Pentagon also estimated eight Iranian-backed fighters were killed during retaliatory U.S. strikes that targeted two facilities near Deir Ezzor city. The number is nearly half of the death toll reported by the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Brig. Gen. Ryder said the fighters were not Iranian nationals but were associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The spokesman reiterated U.S. officials’ remarks last week that the US “will take all necessary measures to defend our troops and our interests overseas.”

“We do not seek conflict with Iran,” he said, “but we will always protect our people.”

The confrontation in northeastern Syria last week marked a serious escalation in tensions between the U.S.-led coalition and IRGC-backed forces. The situation in the region is currently stable. Both Washington and Tehran do not appear to be planning to escalate again.

Putin made huge blunder, not confronting USA in Syria or at lest clean Syria from USA and Turkey. Pleasing west cause Russia war in UA today. By pleasing the West, west took this as Putin weak leadership and west never took Putin seriously and made Putin fool with the Minsk agreement.

They didn’t have the amount of strength back then as they have now.

There is no difference in Russia’s attitude then and now. Exactly same sitting on the fence, pussyfooting, punches in the air declarations.

Exactly what I always have been saying. US will take all necessary measures to defend our country and the innocent American people, our troops and our interests overseas.

US do not seek conflict with anyone, only peace. But we will always protect people like ISIS who fight internally against butchership nations, because we always defend the weak against a butcher government
