U.S. Admits Troops Were Injured In Recent Drone Attack On Northeastern Syria Base

Several United States and coalition troops were wounded in the August 9 drone attack on Khrab al-Jir base the northeastern Syrian governorate of al-Hasakah, an American official told Reuters on August 11.

The U.S. military initially assessed no casualties in the drone attack, but a more in-depth review found that some troops had minor injuries, according to the unnamed official, who noted that none of the injuries were serious but some troops were also being examined for traumatic brain injuries.

Several wounded troops were moved to a different location for further evaluation, the official added, without further elaborating.

ABC News confirmed previously, citing a U.S. official, that at least one suicide drone hit Khrab al-Jir base, known locally as Abu Hajar Airport and by the U.S. military as the Rumalyn Landing Zone, during the attack.

Khrab al-Jir base, which is built around an airstrip, is one of several military installations the U.S. maintains in Syria, mainly in al-Hasakah the neighboring governorate of Deir Ezzor as well as in the southeastern area of al-Tanf, under the pretext of fighting ISIS remnants. At least 900 troops are currently deployed in the country.

Photos posted to social media after the drone attack showed a large fire at the base. A few hours before the attack, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based pro-opposition monitoring group, reported that a U.S. military cargo plane loaded with equipment and supplies landed at the base. It is still unclear if the plane was damaged or destroyed in the attack.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella group of Iran-backed armed faction, was unofficially blamed.

U.S. forces in Syria and neighboring Iraq were attacked with drones and rockets more than 180 times after the outbreak of the Israeli war on the Palestinian Gaza Strip last October, with the IRI claiming responsibility for most of the attacks.

The group suspended attacks against U.S. forces last February after the death of three American troops in a drone strike on a base in Jordan, reportedly upon a request from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to facilitate talks on a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. However, several attacks hit U.S. bases in both counties in recent days.

Just four days before the attack on Khrab al-Jir, five U.S. troops were wounded when two rockets struck Ain al-Asad Air Base in the western Iraqi province of al-Anbar. The Pentagon has blamed that attack on Iran-backed factions but has not determined specifically which group is responsible.

and do you know what ? putin was invited in mexico on a president inauguration. i think it is a great opportunity for russia to send him there, get him jailed and get rid of him and put some normal intelligent and capable leader on his place. only total idiots (putin-lavrov duo) can be surprised after 10 years of hostilities that ukrainien troops crossed border. giving enemy 10 km of territory in 1 day for free is inexcusable.

once russia got rid of idiots putin & lavrov , everything they screwed up can be fixed, including syria, which is 15 years in limbo, unable to repel u.s. invasion forces as putin is protecting them. imho putin is soros’s asset as he does everything to please global elites, namely jews.

very strange goings on in these wars. hamas does not shoot rescue choppers full of idf, syria is constantly attacked with no replies, us continues attacks on saa, us bases are tickled every so often, but not obliterated. oil is still stolen, convoys not hit anymore. sdf allowed to establish civil governments in syria as well as mossad with kurds. wtf? this begins to look choreographed.

as an american i consider all troops that volunteer to take part in machiavellian schemes that are not part of a declared war by congress as nothing more than traitors that ignore the constitution.
