A United States warship that intercepted drones and missiles near the coast of Yemen on October 19 encountered a larger and more sustained barrage than was previously reported.
CNN, citing an unnamed U.S. official familiar with the situation, reported on October 20 that the USS Carney, an Arleigh-Burke class destroyer, shot down a total of four land-attack cruise missiles and 15 drones over a period of nine hours.
The USS Carney, which traversed the Suez Canal heading south on October 18, intercepted the missiles and drones as they were heading north along the Red Sea.
The trajectory of the missiles and drones left little doubt that they were headed for Israel, the official told the Atlanta-based news channel.
According to the official, some of the projectiles were traveling at altitudes that made them a potential risk to commercial aviation when they were intercepted. The drones and missiles were shot down with SM-2 surface-to-air missiles launched from the USS Carney.
Pentagon press secretary Brigade General Pat Ryder said during a briefing on October 19 the missiles were fired by the Iranian-backed Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen and were launched “potentially towards targets in Israel.” Back then, Ryder said three land-attack cruise missiles and “several” drones.
The Houthis, who maintain a large arsenal of missiles and drones, threatened to attack Israel on several occasions, most recently following the October 7 Palestinian surprise attack which provoked unprecedented heavy Israeli bombardment on the Gaza Strip.
The engagement shows how the U.S. is becoming more and more involved in the Israeli military operation against the Hamas Movement and other Palestinian armed factions in Gaza.
This involvement is creating serious threats to U.S. forces in the Middle East. U.S. bases in Iraq and Syria were attacked with rockets and drones in recent days, with Iranian-backed armed factions claiming responsibility and stating their support for Gaza.
The U.S. is now beefing up its forces in the region. Two carrier strike groups, thousands of Marines and additional fighter jets were deployed in the days that followed the outbreak of the war.
Tenisons in the Middle East will rise even further once Israel launches its planned invasion of Gaza. U.S. forces in the region could get caught in the crossfire.

this is true
this is why i stated that hamas was a fool to release those two american hostages. the americans are supplying iseral with weapons to bomb gaza, not the least the terrorist attack on a christian hospital in gaza, where 700 people were killed mostly children and women! the cowardly hamas should have been chopped the american hostages head of a long time ago, and in particular the israeli captives!
personally, if i was hamas, i would have gotten some inspiration from the mexican cartels, what they do their enemies. and i would have dismembered the israeli captives, while still alive and chopped of their heads with a dull knife! while all the while, in the background, they begged and pleaded with me to stop and all on live television! so that the cowardly israelis can what fate awaits them when captured!
utter blather and nonsense –
a: the closest distance between the closest point of yemen and occupied palestine is 1100 miles — the houtis hardly has any missiles, ballistic or cruise — that has anywhere near that range.
b: the houtis do not have maneuverable missiles that can shoot west over the red sea —- then correct it’s course and cruise north over the red sea for 1000 miles — and then shoot directly north-west for another 100 miles or so into occupied palestine.
check for yourselves on google maps —- yemen in it’s entirety —- is completely blocked by saudi arabia, and thus would absolutely have to fly directly over the length of saudi arabia in order to strike occupied palestine …. because they have no maneuverable ballistic or cruise missiles — nor any drones of that range…. so there absolutely couldn’t be any ‘missiles downed over the red sea’.
pure balderdash — and once again, pure fabrication, lies and propagandic drivel on the part of fahclst amerika.
they must confuse the rest of the world for their ln bread, illiterate and uneducated population.
it would almost be funny if these lies weren’t so pathetic.
sa plece militarii din insula lor socotra si sa vezi ce se linistesc. dar daca au trupe de ocupație acolo….
looks like biden is setting up to ask congress for more billions to attack yemen with a kickback from the saudis for the big guy.
that biden is just another actor like the clown of kiev.. what we truly see is the deeper state stepping up to the game using biden. house of washington is afraid.
tak usa torpédoborec je už vo vojne? čo sa asi tak stane ak zachytí aj jedno proti lodné torpédo? budú potom spokojní?
this sounds like propaganda. since when does the yemen houthi tribe have the missiles that can fly all the way to israel, much less drones?
houthis repelled the saudi invasion using iranian backing. they also reversed engineered american and iranian drones. people are stupid underestimating arab and west asian resolve.
oh, stop it — even iran doesn’t have drones, maneuverable ballistic or maneuverable cruise missiles with a range of 1200 miles…. that’s the range between the closest point of yemen and occupied palestine … that’s almost intercontinental range. iran does not have intercontinental–ranged missiles of any kind. . siddown, ya maroon …. you embarrass yourself with your moronic buffoonery !
okay. you keep underestimating their missile program. and then we’ll see who the buffoon is.
my lgbt hillbilly cheetos military 68% overweight
israel wants a war with iran. theyve been requesting just that in the past year or more.
