U.S. House Of Representatives Aims To Limit Trump's Ability To Wage War With Iran

On January 9, the US House of Representatives (one of two chambers of the Congress) will vote to limit President Donald Trump’s ability to wage war with Iran, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced.

“Members of Congress have serious, urgent concerns about the administration’s decision to engage in hostilities against Iran and about its lack of strategy moving forward,” she said. “To honor our duty to keep the American people safe, the House will move forward with a War Powers Resolution to limit the President’s military actions regarding Iran.”

Pelosi noted  that Trump’s action – authorizing a January 3 strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani – was “provocative and disproportionate” and done without consulting with the Congress.

The measure will likely pass the House, which is controlled by Democrats. However, it’s unlikely that it will pass the GOP-controlled Senate, at least in the current conditions. Additionally, Trump can veto the measure, as he did last year when Congress tried to end the US military action in Yemen. (the US in fact supports the Saudi-led intervention in the country under a pretext of combating terrorism)

The House moved forward with the war powers measure came after Iran retaliated on January 8 for Soleimani’s assassination by launching ballistic missiles at two US military bases in Iraq.

President Donald Trump’s national adress in which he revealed that there would be no military action in response to the Iranian missile strike became a sign of the possible de-escalation. However, the very same measure potentially undermined his position in the internal political power struggle. MORE HERE

Now, Trump’s opponents will try to use the current situation in order to pressure his administration. Meanwhile, the US-Iranian crisis is far from being resolved.

Assad must stay

Trump could care less whatever they try to pass, the best thing they can do is defund the pentagon

This is a fake news by ruling elite of the US, like Trump “did” really authorize to kill Iraqi & Irani generals. Actually Trump would never allow to strike them at the first place. Trump thinks sanctions are working while deep state thinks they are not.

It would seem that Trump had nothing to gain from this – in fact, it could cost him his reelection. Saying it is a diversion from his impeachment is, IMO, wrong: his approval rating went way up during the procedures which were really a disaster for the democrats. The US also has little (if anything) to gain from the assassination of Soleimani (except a respite for the allies that begin with IS). Who took that decision really or who convinced Trump to do this?

I think the same. Either he was forced to do this for some reason, or he was tricked because his personal knowledge of the Middle East is sparse, to say the least.

I think that ‘being tricked’ and pressured for the quick, OK ,to murder a ‘Tearrrrrist ‘ is the most likely reason.

A slight amendment; “Members of Congress have serious, urgent concerns about the administration’s decision to engage in hostilities against Iran and about its lack of strategy moving forward, without us in the driving seat pulling the levers”. There, fixed it for you Nancy.

The dimocrats don’t have a hope of controlling the Trumpster. They are one trick ponies and at present they are all staring at the shiny lights which spell out, impeachment. These ponies are hell bent on flogging dead ponies.
