United States-led coalition fighter jets and drones continue to violate Syria’s airspace, according to Rear Admiral Vadim Kulit, deputy chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria.
During a briefing on September 24, the commander said that the coalition violated the airspace over the southeastern area of al-Tanf at least 14 times over the past day.
“A total of 14 violations were registered in the Al Tanf area: by a pair of F-35 fighter jets, three pairs of F-16 fighter jets, a pair of Rafale fighter jets, a pair of Typhoon fighter jets and two MQ-1C multi-role unmanned aerial vehicles of the coalition,” Kulit said.
The commander also revealed that coalition drones violated the deconfliction protocols by conducting ten sorties over Syria without coordinating with the Russian military group in the country.
The U.S.-led coalition maintains a garrison in al-Tanf as well as several bases at key oil and gas fields in the northeastern governorates of Deir Ezzor and al-Hasakah under the pretext of fighting ISIS without the approval of the Syrian government.
On the other hand, the Russian military is present in the country to counter ISIS and other terrorist groups under an invitation from the government.
Around two months ago, the coalition began attempts to expand its aerial operations over Syria without any coordination. This created unprecedented tensions with the Russian military group in the country.
