The US Army has decided not to buy Israel’s Iron Dome to counter aerial threats, according to Defense News.
This comes in spite of the United States military having successfully carried out a first live-fire test of the missile defense system.
According to a report in Defense News website, Washington opted for Enduring Shield system developed by American company Dynetics after a shoot-off and comparative tests between the two systems at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico in July.
The Dynetics system has 360-degree detection and can fire at multiple threats simultaneously. The system is simple to operate and can be fully integrated with the army’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System.
The Jerusalem post attempted to dig further and asked Israel’s Defense Ministry and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. The answer was that both would not be commenting on the Defense News report, but if confirmed, it is expected to be a significant setback for the ministry.
According to a report in Calcalist, though, the average price of an Iron Dome system is around $8,400,000. Israel Aerospace Industries said that each system is customized according to need, and it therefore does not have a fixed price.
IAI, which manufactures the radars for Iron Dome, made a record $4.2 billion in 2020 in international sales from the multi-mission radar.
Some 150 MMR radars, the brains of the system, have been sold to customers around the world, Calcalist said.
The US Army purchased two off-the-shelf batteries from Rafael in August 2019 that were delivered in late 2020. The army has since been in the process of examining and building training systems for the batteries.
The purchase of those batteries included 12 launchers, two sensors, two battle management centers and 240 interceptors.
Now, the US is reportedly opting out of purchasing any more. It was somewhat expected, as indications were shown back in March 2021.
Back in March this year, the US army announced it was reconsidering plans to buy additional Iron Dome systems because they could not be integrated into American-made air missile systems.
“We believe we cannot integrate them into our air-defense system based upon some interoperability challenges, some cyber challenges and some other challenges,” US General Mike Murray, commander of Army Futures Command, said at the time.
Washington is said to have contributed $1.6 billion in funding Israel’s Iron Dome system since 2011, and the American defense company Raytheon is a partner with Rafael in the production of Iron Dome subsystem parts that are produced throughout 15 states in the United States.
“What you’re probably – almost certainly – going to see is two standalone systems, and if the best we can do is standalone systems, we do not want to buy another two batteries,” US General Mike Murray stated in 2020.
On August 25th, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin told Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett that the Biden administration was working to fulfill Israel’s request for $1 billion in emergency funding to replenish the Iron Dome.

Instead, it decided to team up with American defense giant, L3-Harris, which was founded by an Italo-American. In essence, the Italian MoD is to increase its AWACs-SIGINT fleet from its current 2 planes to a minimum of 8, maybe 10 based on the Gulfstrean 550 airframe. The interesting fact is that the current 2 AWACS were developed in Israel and that Italy was forced to buy them as offset for selling Israel 30 advanced jet trainers in the early part of the last decade in addition to a useless spy satellite that Italy could have built on its own. Although they are called military offset agreements, the way the Israeli swine conduct these agreements, the term blackmail would be more appropriate. From what I can infer on the latest bid, Israel only wanted limited participation of Italian defense firms, like Leonardo and Elettronica, more capable than their own, in the new project. So, the Italian response to Israhell: Andate a fare in culo!!! This is certainly becoming a worrying trend for the Zionist Squatter State!!! Jew greed will be their downfall!!!

Wow, a truly homegrown and self-funded endeavor. Israel indeed makes wonders in technology innovation and self-sufficiency ,no doubt. I mean If tomorrow “somebody” pulled the plug on them and left them fend for themselves like a normal military power, it would have no problems mass-producing those essential parts themselves and on their soil like a mature industrial country,right.

This is eaxactly what will happen. Puling the plug means destroying the electrical grid. production without sufficient electricity is not possible, and Israel is not able to replenish any damages by own resources.
These so-called Iron Dome missiles are the most ridiculous anti-air defense in the world, when any anti-missile hits the designated missile a small fireball is been created in which the incoming missile is been destroyed and blows, but every possible time I see iron done been shot at in the sky there is only white puffs of smoke, no explosion heard, no fireball made from the impact just white smoke. Go figure.
The preferred means of destruction is not by fireball, but by kinetic energy of shrapnells in direction of the incoming warhead. The aim is to destroy the fuse of the warhead, preventing it to explode. A fireball is not needed, but a directional fragmentation with high accuracy to hit the designated target.
Meaning they went with a proximity explosion, not a direct hit model. There are reasons for and against this model, but in essence a direct hit is harder to achieve, as with proximity it’s enough to just get close and spray directional shrapnel. In this manner is like a modernized missile based flak system, radar tracking and proximity explosions, directed at incoming sector targets.
As expected, Iron Dome is effective against rockets and not missiles. The attack on Gaza and vice versa was rockets being launched. Rockets are much easier to detect, predict and shoot down. They are very slow aswell. Seems like the US tested the system against missiles and it failed hard.

An informal 2013 report by Theodore Postol, Mordechai Shefer and Richard Lloyd, said the official effectiveness figures for Iron Dome were incorrect. Postol argued that “Iron Dome’s intercept rate, defined as destruction of the rocket’s warhead, was relatively low, perhaps as low as 5%, but could well be lower.”
It’s an American choice, and we accept it. Iron Dome will keep protecting my beloved israeli citizens as well as we keep fighting and kill those terrorists. All of you terroristic militans combined are not a match for us, and we shall prove it once again when we get our orders. Time to flatten our enemies and make them pay a heavy price, the innocents can leave or die with the terrorists. That is not of our concern.
