A US-insitgated large-scale provocation is expected to take place on the Venezuelan border, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned in a statement.
According to the statement, US plans to deliver humanitarian aid to Venezuela could lead to clashes and would create a convenient pretext for a military action in the country.
“The development of events in Venezuela has come to a critical point, everyone understands this. On 23 February, a dangerous large-scale provocation is set to take place, instigated by the Washington-led crossing of the Venezuelan border with a so-called humanitarian convoy, which may lead to clashes between supporters and opponents, forming a convenient pretext for military action to remove the current legitimate president from government“, Zakharova said.
She added that Russia has info that the US is planning to deploy special forces troops and weapons close to the Venezuelan border.
“We have evidence that US companies and their NATO allies are working on the issue of acquiring a large batch of weapons and ammunition in an Eastern European country for their subsequent transfer to Venezuelan opposition forces”, Zakharova stressed.
She pointed out that there is also a Ukrainian trace in the plan to instigate the conflict.
“There is also a Ukrainian trace in this brazen plan. In particular, it is going to involve the Antonov state company, as far as we understand,” she stressed.
The so-called humantiarian convoy is expected to make an attempt to enter Venezuela on February 23. The situation is developing.
Last time there was this much hoo-ha about an aid shipment, it was a famine in Africa. Remember Live-Aid. A cargo aircraft from the US was sent with medical supplies. Aid agencies rounded up dozens of trucks and drove hundreds of miles to the nearest airfield only to find a planeload of out-of-date eye wash.
