Pvt. Michael Thomason
The US-led coalition against ISIS announced on April 30 that a U.S. service member has died in a noncombat incident in northern Syria.
The coalition’s official statement says that Pvt. Michael Thomason, 28, from southwest Detroit lost his live on April 29, without providing any further details. However, Thomason’s family said that “he had been shot and killed,” according to the local WXYZ TV.
Thomason’s death resurfaced on the news on May 1, when several Kurdish sources and Western activists close to the US-bacekd Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) claimed that the U.S. soldier was killed by the Turkish military.
According to these sources, Thomason’s vehicle was targeted by the Turkish military while it was passing through the area of Zur Maghar near the northern Syrian city of Ayn Arab, commonly known as Kobani.
The sources went on to claim that media outlets affiliated with Turkey released several reports on the eve of April 29 boasting about the attack on the U.S. military vehicle. However, after additional research no such reports were found.
The US-led coalition and the Turkish military have not commented on these accusations, so far. The SDF also hasn’t made any official statement on the matter yet.
It is plausible that the U.S. and Turkey are hiding the incident in order to avoid a diplomatic crisis. However, there is also a good chance that Kurdish forces are making these accusations in order to increase the pressure on Ankara.

That happened during the Iraq occupation, and no mass revolt against that war happened. There was less popular support, but overall in the 2004 election it was about the economy and gay marriage, not the Iraq occupation, that determined Bush’s 2nd victory.
That’s the thing with the all volunteer army. Most voters do not feel the consequences of the war, its not their sons and daughters who come home in body bags. So they don’t really care. Maybe if a thousand were to die at once, like with the sinking of an aircraft carrier, but a slow trickle of a thousand over a whole year, meh. The sudden shock gets attention, slow attrition doesn’t.
I agree that a few thousand US dead in a short time would make more of an impact.

As much as I detest what my country has done over the past century, I certainly don’t want to see it. The coming economic collapse will do a good job of de-fanging the serpent. Civil war is a possibility, but would have to be instigated by someone charismatic. Part of Trumps base would certainly endorse this, I believe. I have to admit though, many people would be ecstatic should several states secede…Texas and it’s opposite California come to mind. Regardless, the situation in the US would have to change drastically or there would have to be a disaster/event that could be blamed on a certain faction. I also doubt that this would be a desired outcome by TPTB, it would seem to me that complete control (martial law), through a manufactured event, would be preferable (my bet). In some ways I agree with you, however, I have some experience with the UK military and I saw a lot more of ‘life’ in soldiers eyes , together with individual characters.
I do agree that so called, elite troops, tend to have had a military lobotomy , and they are easy to spot. The other ranks speak as if by rote and their very skilled and intelligent officers tend to lack empathy.
I would argue that all aggressive wars are fought for economic reasons, as the controlling religions and politicians often need the spoils of war to stay in power, especially when there is a crisis at home.
