United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will announce the formation of Operation Prosperity Guardian, a new coalition against the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen, during a visit to the Middle East next week, an American military official told The War Zone on December 16.
The report came as U.S. and British warships shot down suicide drones the Houthis launched in a wave from Yemen earlier in the day over the Red Sea.
The Houthis, who control much of Yemen’s Red Sea coast, are a part of the so-called Axis of Resistance that is backed by Iran and opposes Israel.
The group has fired several missiles and drones at the southernmost Israeli city of Eilat since the beginning of the Israeli war on the Palestinian Gaza Strip. It has also assaulted a number of Israeli-owned ships and announced a blockade on all ships heading to Israel.
Its recent attacks near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait forced several major shipping companies, including A.P. Moller-Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd, MSC and CMA CGM, to restrict or completely suspend operations in the Red Sea.
Austin, who is set to arrive in the Middle East early next week with Joint Chiefs Chairman Air Force Gen. C.Q. Brown, will announce Operation Prosperity Guardian, which will be similar to the existing Task Force 153, the official told The War Zone.
The operation will be an international effort focusing “on international maritime security and capacity building efforts in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb and Gulf of Aden,” according to the official.
The unnamed official could not say how many nations will be involved or exactly what missions they will perform beyond patrolling the Red Sea against Houthi threats.
Another report published by Politico on December 17 said that the U.S. was weighing options to strike back at Houthis. Two unnamed American officials told the outlet that the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group was moved into the Gulf of Aden so that it is in position to support a potential U.S. response against the Iranian-backed group in Yemen.
Operation Prosperity Guardian will lead to more tensions in the Red Sea. However, a confrontation will not likely break out unless the U.S. attacks the Houthis.
Over the last few years, the Houthis built, with alleged help from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a large arsenal of offensive weapons, including missiles, drones and remotely-controlled boats that can attack vessels hundreds of kilometers away from Yemen’s shores.
hothis have so far refrained from attacking us ships. the us say they are defending but ate in fact not the target and merely in thw way or enrout and intercepting. if the attack the hothis you can guarantee a series of drones will strike an american vessel in the red sea or their base in djibouti. and who knows, perhaps russia/china will even provide accurate information on us ship locations. after all, the us already said doing so doesn’t amount to any involvement in hostilities.
🫵=🤡 😆😆😆
you’re delusional. a reminder that the us navy isn’t used to actually having to defend itself. furthermore, the hothis have hundreds of suicide drones with well over 100km range and anti ship missiles. they would only need to overwhelm a single target of high value to achieve a strategic victory. the loss of a single us naval vessel as a result of a retalating strike for us becoming directly engaged wouldn’t sit well with us public, and would put the us in a seriously negative position.
don’t forget newly acuired s-25, which are more than capable of taking down any of theirs fighter jets. s-125 soon to come. so dear pigs you don’t want to get slaughtered and bring back vietnam era inabilities of us army. they are simply not intimidated by your warships, striker groups or else. they simply want you (france and uk included) to come to them and get whacked.
truth is that china and india also support the saudi-led coalition.
how many usv’s to knock out a t-aoe, t-aol, usn ddg or cvn, i wonder?
at last the carriers have found an ill defended country to attack. operation prosperity guardian is sure to guard the prosperity of the defense contractors whom i am guessing are mostly zionist in a win-win oportunity to grab money from the budget and loan it back with interest while promoting globalism.
why do you have to add the “so called” axis of resistance? are you on the side of genocidal israel
cause the only ones in this axis who are actualley doing something are huthis and hezbolah. the rest ist just talking.
that’s so far. also khataib hezbolah.
shia militias in iraq oppressed assyrians.
hezbollah supports bosnia against orthodox serbs. serbia and croatia support israel. albania also.
china should give a free fpv drone to everyflip flop fighters.
batch of 10 for every flip flop warrior. free promotion 1st delivery. https://www.alibaba.com/showroom/drones.html
torpedos fired by small speed boats should be a good way. or perhaps russia can get one of the ukrainian sea drones and give it to iran to reengineer it and make some for the huthis.
with all these cheap drones, rubber speed boats, flip flops, pick up trucks with recycled flak cannons and rockets, air and sea, war has wokised. anyone can do it now.
china is against houthis
but you like my meat up your rectum. colorful spectrum.
it is the other way around but if your leader sees this he will hang you.
figure out something by your self you stupid retard. because who repeat my words eat the shi t from third world. and when i put my hands on you, i’ll hang you upside-down by you non existing balls. fu cking capus pectus carinatus! ahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
i’m sure that after the us armed the saudis and helped them with their attempt at ‘regime change’ in yemen, the houthis will be itching to strike back at a us carrier or two. the terrain in yemen is a lot more rugged than afghanistan so goof luck putting boots on the ground. that was tried in mogadishu and the us got their asses handed to them.
excellent idea to barbecue houthi terrorists 😀
remember you anglo-american military boys in afghanistan, how did that end?
time for the houthis to get serious: mine the bab al mandab!
houthis about to become world heros with first strike on a usa aircraft carrier since the japs? holy smoke that’ll make a few more mamoud converts.
it did not work out well for the japs and may not work out well for the huthis. no one really helped them against the saudis so why are they putting their neck on the like for hamas who themselves fought for the other side in syria for money not so long ago.
good question. there has to be alot of promises to the houthis (political support vs saudia arabia, money, military aid) from the iran i’m guessing. iran is using the houthis like usa is using ukrainians, to fight a rival.
china supports saudi arabia also. russia supports the ex president saleh and lavrov criticized houthis for killing him.
very true but houthis like turkey a lot and don’t really care about assad anymore
if the houthis can survive the relentless bombings of the saudis, i’d guess they’d stay intact after the us assaults.
the most honest named military operation of the usa ever. the only more honest name would have been “operation profit protector”. cause that’s what every single war of them (and most others) is about.
i was thinking the same thing. that an “axis of resistance”. i’m surprised they did not name them “axis of evil part 2” or something equally juvenile.
let us/uk attack houthis that will the biggest grave mistake they will do every war ship will be target of ressitance from yemen. us thin yemen is syria or libya
shekel lords and the sheihks made another mistake. fleets are advancing to early and too late.
sea legs – run the jewels
the french in djibouti and al sauds will get involved. emirates and israeli’s are on soctra south of yemen and east of somalia. the amount of air power needed and how long they are going to be flying for makes it an expensive mission. oni and naval bodies must be happy conisdering how useless they usually are besides marine and aid deployments.
run the jewels – sea legs
good point. this can mushroom out into a large area of low level conflict. i wonder if the somali pirates (after their fish started getting stolen by french and spanish fishing boats) and houthis work together? somali pirates pretty good at this business; ship capture and ransom negotiations.
eritreans and somalis support the houthis alongside oman and qatar
if the houthis are smart they’ll keep the pressure up for a few months until monsoon season starts. the weather will disrupt air missions all over the world but particuarly in the indian ocean. the bennies should start praying for some wind of god ala hurricane cobra during world war ii. it’ll do more damage than all their aging missiles. if they last as long as the fighting in israel is makes a massive political difference.
fleetwood mac – the chain unkle – the reign
if you don’t realize this, the us is being dragged into yet another conflict. ukraine, israel, and yemen. this is how empires die, uncontrolled fires all over the place.
us are being dragged nowhere. they are behind it all. uk, usa and israel is all the same nation. when you get your head around that you will understand the world.
a coalition, that means that uk, france and nato will be involved. so brussels, paris london, berline can be legitim target for bombs here and there. i hope they will target our zio controlled regimes. and iran will not sid down and let this happen. the dying dollar need blood. kill the dollar !!!
usa, with sanctions for several years and now genocide of 2m+ people in gaza, has smashed commercial and humanitarian world rules. so lawlessness will increase.
i support 🇮🇱 😃 i stand with 🇺🇦 😃 i like to eat 💩 😃
o yemen tem que bombardear tel aviv. e se o yemen for atacado pelos usa, o irã deve defender o yemen!
“operation perverted joe is napping”
this where the us will get sucked in bring attacks directly on themselves. all for their zionist jew masters.
tom is like the rest his troll pedo lot, bleeding from the arse.
