The US Navy has carried out the first fire tests of its new generation air missile defence system that should be able to intercept and to destroy supersonic missiles.

The UK Ministry of Defence said that Sea Ceptor missiles were successfully fired from HMS Argyll off the coast of Scotland.

The new system is set to replace the Sea Wolf weapon system on Type 23 frigates. It uses missiles capable of reaching up to three times the speed of sound. The system is able to deal with multiple targets at the same time and to protect about 1,300 square kilometres over land or sea.

HMS Argyll will conduct further firing tests of the Sea Ceptor’s system. The warship will be deployed to Japan in 2018.

The old Sea Wolf was a load of rubbish.

Russian Poliment Redut is more effective, since it is the naval version of the veritable S350.
