Russian air defenses repelled on June 1 a series of Ukrainian missile, rocket and drone attacks that targeted the region of Belgorod.
In separate statements, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that two Soviet-made Tochka-U tactical ballistic missiles and 11 suicide drones were intercepted over Belgorod between the early morning and afternoon. It also reported the interception of a drone over the region of Bryansk.
Russian media also reported several attacks with American-made GMLRS precision-guided rockets, typically launched from M270 MLRS or the M142 HIMARS systems, on Belgorod. Most of the rockets, including ones armed with cluster warheads, were successfully intercepted by Russian air defenses.
Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported some material losses in different parts of Belgorod and said that a civilian was wounded in the settlement of Shebekino.

Earlier this week, several Western media outlets reported that Washington greenlit “limited” strikes with American-made weapons for counter-fire purposes only in Belgorod to help Ukraine repel the ongoing Russian ground operation in the direction of Kharkiv.
The Russian military launched the operation in Kharkiv last month in response to a series of Ukrainian attacks on Belgorod and neighboring regions that killed and wounded dozens of civilians.
