Ukraine launched an attack at the western Russian region of Kursk with two suicide drones on June 23 as its forces continue to struggle with their counteroffensive.
Kursk Governor Roman Starovoit said in a statement that both drones were shot down by Russian air defenses. The governor added that there was no significant infrastructure damage.
“Last night, our air defenses shot down unmanned aerial vehicles in the sky over Kursk. The fragments that fell to a land plot of a gardeners’ partnership in the regional center destroyed a fence,” Starovoit wrote on his Telegram channel.
Video footage that surfaced online after the attack showed the successful interceptions of the drones right over the city of Kursk.
Early on June 24, the Russian military launched retaliatory strikes with cruise missiles and suicide at the Ukrainian regions of Dnipro and Kharkiv as well as the capital Kiev. Ukraine claimed that its air defenses intercepted 40 cruise missiles and two drones. However, explosions were reported in the targeted areas.
Meanwhile inthe Russian special military operation zone, Kiev forces continue to struggle with their ongoing counteroffensive. Despite launching a new wave of attacks between June 23 and 24, the forces failed to make any meaningful gains.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement that Kiev forces attempted to take advantage of “[Wagner chief Evgeny] Prigozhin’s provocation” and stepped up attacks on the key Donbass city of Artyomovsk, that is also known as Bakhmut.
“Servicemen from the Southern group are suppressing the enemy with artillery and aviation strikes,” the statement reads.
New videos from the front showed Russian artillery strikes on Ukrainian positions, recent night operations by Russian snipers and an attack with an FPV suicide drone against an armored personnel carrier of Kiev forces.
Kiev will likely increase its attacks within and outside the Russian special military operation zone in the upcoming few days in order to take advantage of the current situation in Russia.
