The Armed Forces of Ukraine continued their attempts to break through Russian defenses in different areas of the frontline. These attempts were mostly unsuccessful. They failed to broaden the offensive in the Ternovy Pody area. Northeast of it, in the area of Andreevka, at least 30 Ukrainian units of engineering equipment were transferred to restore the crossings on the Ingulets river. The only success of the Ukrainian military was reported on the northern front lines where they managed to partially take control of the village of Visokopolie.
Since August 29, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have tried to escalate their offensive in the south of the country. So far, Kiev has not achieved significant results on the ground. According to various sources, the losses of the Ukrainian army are estimated to be in the thousands of killed and wounded servicemen and hundreds of destroyed pieces of military equipment.
Kiev’s decision to launch an offensive on this sector of the front raises many questions from a military point of view, but it has a certain political expediency.
Firstly, on the eve of the upcoming winter, the Kiev regime dramatically needs more financial assistance from the West. Demonstrative military activity in the south of the country is nothing more than a justification for the need to continue supporting Ukraine by the economically weakened West.
Secondly, Kiev seeks to prevent the referendums in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions which intend to become part of the Russian Federation. The local authorities declared their almost complete readiness to hold votes in early September.

In the current situation, these forces can only be obtained from the ranks of foreign military personnel.
In turn, the Russian side, conducting successful defensive actions, concentrates fresh forces in the operational depth of defense. In recent days, hundreds of units of heavy military equipment have been spotted on their way to the Kherson region moving through the Crimea.
At the same time, on 6 September, the Ukrainian armed forces launched another large-scale offensive operation near Balakleya, Kharkiv region, in the east of the country aiming to encircle the Izyum grouping of Russians. A significant concentration of Ukrainian troops in this area was reported days ago.
In the coming hours it will become clear whether the Russian command used the available information or whether it came as a surprise to Moscow. The offensive began on a day when Russian President Putin and Defence Minister Shoigu were in the Russian Far East, where the Vostok 2022 military exercises had begun.

Rivers without bridges will be more difficult to cross, with the rain, unless there is snow and ice. Ukraine is further to the South than Russia, just N of Turkey. The cold of the winter will affect Europe. There will be much less solar energy. The ground will be very muddy and difficult for those in trenches. Russian vehicles will fare better. Perhaps the satellites will have less opportunity to observe events due to heavy cloud cover. Longer range missiles will be better adapted. Aircraft, helicopters and drones will be of greater importance. This is all while Europe has energy problems of their own making, due to their sanctions. Someone else elaborate better please.

Infrared sensors will perform better due to the contrast of heat and cold. If Russia was smart, as soon as it get’s cold they’d target Ukraines electrical grid, ideally as far in western Ukraine and Kiev. The Russians need to bone up on the American general William Tecumseh Sherman who knew that to win, you have to make it hell for the civilians also. The Russians prefer the fall and winter because then their is less “green” ground cover and targets are easier to pick out.
Both have disadvantages, but the attacking side have the upper hand because of the foliage gone.
As bad as the Russians are with logistics, the Ukrainians are even worst. More so, the Ukrainian logistics are now much more complicated then the Russians. Consider the amount of heavy weapons from so many different countries and eras. Each unique item needs it’s own supply chain. Food will become much more scares in the winter, and much less foraging opportunities for the soldiers. This means that what we saw with looting from the civilians will become worst on the Ukrainian side of the front.
Next, we need to talk about weather. Colder weather will affect the Ukrainians much more then the Russians. When Ukrainians are dropped off, they are forgotten, i.e. not supported, and given an order to defend. In summer that is possible, but not in winter were exposure to the elements can be as deadly as the Russians. Finally consider this, does any one think that cold weather combat gear will make it to the front line in time for late fall / winter, especially due to corruption. On the Russian side, it will.
The other way weather will affect is the ability to reinforce defensive positions. Soldiers normally deploy with a shovel, that can be used in hand to hand combat, but is primary given to dig foxholes. Once the ground freezes, that will no longer be an option. Likewise during the winter months, fording rivers will become much easier, especially once the entire river is frozen at least several feet of ice. This will favor whom ever is on the offense in the winter.
Russians will have heat, and fuel. Ukraine, not so much.
