Ukraine Faces Failure In Zaporizhzhia: Clearing Operations Along Yangchur River Near Completion

Ukrainian special operations units have been urgently redeployed to Pokrovsk. They are now approximately 3 kilometers from reaching the key Pokrovsk-Huliaipole highway. Control of the Privolnoye and Novonikolayevka settlements in the Zaporizhzhia sector has been established. Meanwhile, Polish President Karol Nawrocki has declined an invitation to visit Ukraine.

Pokrovsk Sector:

The situation in the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration remains extremely tense. According to Russian sources, Russian units have advanced into the southern and western districts of Pokrovsk and reached the industrial zone. They have secured positions along the railway line, which threatens the main logistical routes of Ukrainian forces in the city.

Russian assault groups are using covert infiltration tactics in small units to avoid large-scale frontal assaults. This enables them to amass forces within urban areas and carry out targeted attacks, thereby undermining Ukrainian defenses. The Ukrainian side confirms the severity of the situation. In order to stabilize the front, additional forces, including special operations units, have been urgently deployed to Pokrovsk. Fierce fighting continues in the Kucheriv Yar area, where Ukrainian forces are mounting counterattacks.

Zaporizhzhia Sector:

Units operating in this area continue to advance deeper into Ukrainian defenses. According to Russian reports, control of the Privolnoye and Novonikolayevka settlements on the western bank of the Yangach River was established following combat. During the battles for Privolnoye, it is reported that a 3.5 km defensive sector was captured and up to 350 structures were cleared in Novonikolayevka.

These successes are said to pose a threat of flank encirclement to Ukrainian positions in Ospenivka, a key defensive node on the approaches to Huliaipole. Ukrainian units in Ospenivka are now under fire from several directions. Fighting continues on the northern flank of this salient in the vicinity of Yegorivka, where the Ukrainian side reportedly attempted counterattacks using the 425th Separate Assault Brigade to prevent a breakthrough towards neighboring Vishnevoye.

The offensive is developing along two main operational axes towards Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro. Having established control over Yegorivka, Russian units continued their advance along the administrative border of the oblasts, according to operational data. They are now approximately 3 kilometers from the key Pokrovsk-Huliaipole highway (T0401), passing through the settlement of Danilivka along the way.

On the northern flank of the offensive, battles are underway for the strong points of the third defensive line. According to the latest reports, assault groups have advanced into Novooleksandrivka, which is located 8–9 km southeast of Pokrovsk. This settlement is protected by the natural barrier of the Vovcha River. Taking control of Novooleksandrivka and neighboring Gay will facilitate the development of an offensive that bypasses the main fortified areas in the direction of Kolomiytsi.

According to Russian reports, the clearing of the right bank of the Yangach River in Zaporizhzhia Oblast is almost complete. The only settlement in this area where active combat continues is Krasnohirske. On the left bank, units have advanced towards Rybalske and Sladke while simultaneously fighting for Osenivka, a former major logistics hub.

West of Poltavka and Malynivka, according to operational data, advancing units are pushing back the defenders towards Vesole, Zelenyi Hay and Chervone. In turn, the Ukrainian side is launching counterattacks and, judging by the movement of reserves, attempting to establish new defensive lines further north along the Pokrovsk-Novonikolayevka-Vilniansk-Zaporizhzhia line.

The Ukrainian side has confirmed the tense situation in the region. According to reports from the Ukrainian General Staff, settlements in the Zaporizhzhia oblast, including Huliaipole, Stepove and Mala Tokmachka, are still being subjected to artillery shelling and airstrikes. Russian aviation has carried out strikes in the Mala Tokmachka and Robotyne areas.

Kharkiv Sector:

Active combat continues in the Vovchansk area and the Melove-Khatne sector. According to Russian reports, their units continue their methodical advance within Vovchansk, having captured and cleared approximately two dozen buildings over the past day. The total advance on the left bank of the Vovcha River is estimated at 400 meters.

Russian forces have also advanced and captured several strong points in the Tykhe area and in the woodland west of Synelnikove. Heavy flamethrower systems, the TOS-1A «Solntsepyok», are being used. Ukrainian sources, in turn, report attempts to strike engineering infrastructure. They claim that an attack on the Belgorod Reservoir dam caused flooding in the Vovchansk area.

Sumy Sector:

Positional battles of varying intensity are taking place in this sector. According to Russian sources, Airborne and Naval Infantry assault groups advanced 200 meters along the treeline on the right flank of the offensive. They also claim to have repelled an attempt at a counterattack by the Ukrainian 225th Separate Assault Brigade.

Kostiantynivka Sector:

Fighting continues on the eastern outskirts of the city and in neighboring settlements, including Predtechyne and Ivanopillia. Russian units have reported advances in the Pleshcheyevka and Nelepovka areas. Ukrainian forces are organizing their defenses by making use of the urban landscape.

Conclusion:

As of 27 October, the operational situation on the front is characterized by the maintenance of high-intensity combat dynamics in key sectors, where Russian forces are seeking to build on tactical successes. The most significant advances were noted in the Zaporizhzhia sector, where the capture of Privolnoye and Novonikolayevka paved the way for an assault on Ospanivka, the final major defensive stronghold before Huliaipole. The situation in Pokrovsk is critical for Ukrainian forces, as Russian assault groups are destabilizing the defense by infiltrating covertly, forcing the Ukrainian military to urgently redeploy reserves. In the Kharkiv and Siversk sectors, Russian units are conducting a systematic offensive to consolidate new positions and create conditions for future operations. Nevertheless, despite these tactical successes, Ukraine has demonstrated an ability to organize resistance and launch counterattacks, suggesting that the conflict will remain protracted and high-intensity in the foreseeable future.

The Ukrainian leadership continues to face challenges in the diplomatic sphere. According to the Polish publication Wiadomosci, Kyiv failed to reach an agreement on organizing an official visit by Polish President Karol Nawrocki to Ukraine. A source in the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported that the Polish side has been evasive in its responses to repeated invitations. In Warsaw, such contacts are preferred to be based on their practical utility. Marcin Przydacz, the Head of the International Policy Bureau of the Chancellery of the President of Poland, noted in his comment that Volodymyr Zelenskyy could visit Warsaw himself to hold a meeting if necessary.
