Ukraine Is Losing Elite Troops, Mercenaries In Zaporizhzhia (Videos)

On February 25, the Russian military inflicted some serious losses on Kiev forces while repelling additional counterattacks near the Haichur River in Zaporizhzhia

The Russian military’s Vostok [East] Group of Forces repelled four counterattacks which were carried out by elite Ukrainian military formations, namely the 425th Separate Assault Regiment, the 82nd Separate Air Assault Brigade, and the 24th Separate Assault Battalion.

Three assault groups of the 425th Separate Assault Regiment attempted to advance near Orestopol. Four other groups from the 82nd Separate Air Assault Brigade advanced from Alexandrovka and Dobropasovo in the direction of Hai. In addition, four groups from the 24th Separate Assault Battalion advanced near Bratskoe.

The advance attempts were detected early on by the reconnaissance units of the Vostok Group of Forces. The group’s drone units played a key role in repelling the counterattacks, destroying vehicles and even chasing after troops.

In one case, a Ukrainian soldier committed suicide by shooting himself in the head after getting wounded by a drone strike that also killed his comrad.

The death of a French mercenary fighting for Kiev forces was also reported. Jean-Baptiste Nicolas Siles, more known by his callsign “Hennesy,” was targeted somewhere in Zaporizhzhia. He came to Ukraine soon after the start of the Russian special military operation, and until recently he was reportedly serving in the ranks of the 31st Mechanized Brigade.

Separately, the Vostok Group of Forces struck gatherings of Kiev forces in Vozdvizhevka, Gulyaipolskoe, Egorovka, and Novoselka.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said in its daily briefing that the Vostok Group of Forces managed to neutralize “355 troops, five armoured fighting vehicles, 11 motor vehicles, and three artillery guns” of Kiev forces over the past 24 hours, mainly in Zaporizhzhia.

The latest wave of counterattacks shows that Ukraine has opted to throw more of its troops into Zaporizhzhia in order to keep pressure on the Russian military.

Kiev forces began launching counterattacks near the northern part of the Haichur earlier this month, and despite taking heavy losses, they are yet to recapture any key settlement. Meanwhile, the Vostok Group of Forces is slowly working to expand its control south along the river, especially near the key city of Huliaipole.
