The Russian military continues to inflict heavy losses on Kiev forces in Kursk, which appear to be losing the battle in this direction.
In its December 24 briefing, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that the Sever (North) Group of Forces had defeated one heavy mechanised brigade, five mechanised brigades, three air assault brigades, one marine brigade, and four territorial defence brigades of Kiev forces close to the settlements of Aleksandriya, Viktorovka, Zaoleshenka, Kubatkin, Lebedevka, Leonidovo, Martynovka, Nikolayevka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Novaya Sorochina, Sverdlikovo, and Cherkasskaya Konopelka.
The Sever Group of Forces also repelled four counter-attacks by Kiev forces in the same direction, according to the ministry.
In addition, the ministry said that Russian air and artillery strikes inflicted losses on Ukrainian troops and equipment close to the settlements of Guyevo, Kositsa, Kruglenkoye, Kurilovka, Loknya, Malaya Loknya, Makhnovka, Russkoye Porechnoye, and Staraya Sorochina in Kursk as well as near the settlements of Basovka, Belovody, and Zhuravka in the neighboring Ukrainian region of Sumy.
“The AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses were more than 200 troops, one armoured personnel carrier, one armoured fighting vehicle, one electronic warfare station, and five motor vehicles,” it added.
Separately, videos posted to social networks in the last few days showed some of Kiev forces’ recent losses in the direction of Kursk.
Kiev forces launched a surprise attack from Sumy into Kursk last August. The Russian military is currently conducting a counter-attack to clear the region.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 43,510 troops, 253 tanks, 194 infantry fighting vehicles, 136 armored personnel carriers, 1,316 armored fighting vehicles, 1,179 motor vehicles, 324 artillery guns, 42 launchers, including 11 American-made HIMARS and six MLRS systems, 13 air defense systems, seven transport-loading vehicles, 80 electronic warfare stations, 13 counter-battery radars, four aerial radars, 28 engineering vehicles, including 13 counter obstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, six armored recovery vehicle, and one command post vehicle.
