Kiev forces attacked Russian territory with dozens of suicide drones in addition to a number of rockets and a ballistic missile on March 17 in an apparent attempt to disturb the last day of the country presidential elections.
In two separate statements, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that air defenses intercepted at least 36 Ukrainian drones over eight different Russian regions: five over the capital, Moscow, three over Belgorod, two over Kaluga, one over Oryol, one over Rostov, four over Yaroslavl, three over Kursk and 17 over Krasnodar.
The Slavyansky oil refinery in Krasnodar was hit. A fire broke out, but was promptly extinguished. One person was reportedly killed and refinery workers were evacuated.
And in Belgorod, gas pipelines and power lines in the settlement of Oktyabrsky were damaged by four drones. However, there were no casualties.
In addition to the drone strikes, the Russian MoD said in a later statement that nine RM-70 Vampire 122 mm rockets and three BM-27 Uragan 220 mm rockets were intercepted over Belgorod. Not all Ukrainian rockets were shot down, however. The region’s governor Vyacheslav Gladkov announced that a teenage girl was killed and her father was wounded by rocket fire.
Meanwhile in the Bryansk region, a S-200 anti-aircraft missile converted by Kiev forces into a ballistic missile was intercepted by Russian air defenses, according to governor Alexander Bogomaz. The Russian MoD is yet to provide details.
The Kiev regime has been launching strikes against Russian territory on a daily basis for over a week and since March 12 its forces have been attempting to infiltrate Belgorod and Kursk. Hundreds of Ukrainian troops were killed in these infiltration attempts.
The aim of Ukraine’s repeated attacks on Russia appears to be to terrorize civilians there and disturb the presidential election, which began on March 15 and is set to end late on March 17.
The Russian election process is nearing complete success, despite all provocations. The response to Ukraine’s recent attacks will likely be fierce.
