On September 29, the Russian Ministry of Defense officially confirmed the full control of the village of Makeevka located on the western outskirts of the Luhansk People’s Republic.
According to the Russian military, units of the Western group of Russian forces completed the mop up operations on the western outskirts of the village of Makeevka and took the full control of the settlement.
Battles have been ongoing with various success in the area of Makeevka since the autumn of 2022, after Russian forces stopped Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Krasny Liman, Kupyansk directions.
As a result of a series of successful assault operations, the Russian army is rapidly taking back the territories lost two years ago.

The new assault of Russian forces in Makeevka and settlements nearby began several weeks ago in early September. As a result of successful operations, the Russian military took control of the village of Nevskoe on September 21. Nevskoe is located south of Makeevka. As a result, Russian assault in Makeevka was intensified on the southern flank. A week ago, Russian units largely expanded their zone of control in the village and repelled the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the dominant heights nearby. First reports from the front claimed Russian control of the last western outskirts of Makeevka on September 25.
After Russian forces completed the mop up operations in both Nevskoe and Makeevka, they continued to advance and slightly expanded their zone of control around the villages.
The Russian army is advancing on a wide front, destroying the last Ukrainian bridgeheads on the eastern bank of the Zherebets river in the Luhansk People’s Republic. Ukrainian defense in the area is complicated by the terrain and necessity to transfer forces across the river under Russian fire.
