Ukraine had received the first batch of American-made F-16 fighter jets from one of its backers, Bloomberg reported on July 31.
Bloomberg didn’t provide much details. However, a report released later the same day by The Times said that the Ukrainian Air Force (UAF) had received a total of six F-16s from the Netherlands.
Although Ukraine is yet to comment on the reports, their delivery was seemingly confirmed by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis.
“F-16s in Ukraine. Another impossible thing turned out to be totally possible,” the minister said on X.
In addition, photos shared by Ukrainian media showed F-16s with clear markings allegedly flying over the Western Ukrainian region of Lviv.
Last year, several NATO backes of the Kiev regime, led by Denmark and the Netherlands, formed a coalition to train pilots, technicians and support personnel from the UAF on F-16 fighter jets after receiving a green light from the United States. Ukraine was promised at least 79 used F-16s from the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and Belgium.
The Kiev regime has been already warned by its allies to not overestimate what the F-16 could do. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg openly said last April that these fighter jets can’t change the situation on the battlefield, although they will enhance Ukraine’s combat capabilities.
While Ukraine is pinning high hopes on the fighter jets, the truth is that NATO is only supplying them to make up for the heavy losses of the UAF and prolong the conflict.
The older versions of the F-16 Ukraine began to receive are inferior in every aspect to Russia’s most modern fighter jets, like the Su-30, Su-35 and the stealthy Su-57.
Last March, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the F-16s will not change the situation on the battlefield and vowed that the Russian military will destroy the American-made fighter jets the same way it destroyed Western tanks and other vehicles of Kiev forces.
The Kremlin affirmed on August 1 after the reports of the first delivery to Ukraine that the Russian military is prepared to intercept and shoot down the fighter jets.
