Having lost the bridgehead near the village of Cossak Laheri on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) do not stop attempts to land on the territory under the Russian control as well as on the islands, most of which are in the grey zone.
In the early morning of August 24, a group of Ukrainian servicemen attempted another assault operation on the eastern bank of the Dnieper. The operation failed and Ukrainian boats were destroyed in the area between the settlements of Golaya Pristan and Kardashinka. Bodies of three Ukrainian servicemen were taken out of water by Russian soldiers.
The Ukrainian military is launching similar attacks on a daily basis. On August 23, several Ukrainian boats were destroyed by Russian artillery when attempting to land on the islands of Belogrudy and Melky.
On August 22, the AFU also attempted to land on the Belogrudy island. One of the boats with at least five Ukrainian servicemen on board was destroyed by Russian artillery fire. The other escaped from the area. At the same time, the AFU landed in the Melky island and attempted to equip an observation post there but they came under Russian fire and were forced to retreat.
The escalation in the area of the village of Golaya Pristan indicates that the AFU may attempt to gain a new bridgehead on the eastern bank there.
