In the Sumy region, specifically in the Krasnopillia sector, Russian troops have advanced, widening the gap in Ukrainian defenses around Pokrivka and Novodmytrivka. This has forced the Ukrainian command to deploy reinforcements, including the “Kraken” units, to stabilize the front. Meanwhile, one battalion of the 119th Territorial Defense Brigade has lost its combat readiness. In the Dnipropetrovsk area, Russian troops withdrew from some positions near Novopavlivka after counterattacks by Ukrainian units. This area has transitioned into a “grey zone,” and the intensity of Ukrainian attacks has significantly decreased. In the Slaviansk area, the 123rd Motorized Rifle Brigade is advancing through the Kryva Luka and Kalenyky defenses, creating a semi-envelopment of Rai-Oleksandrivka from the north. Ukrainian forces are conducting localized attacks near Lypivka and Nykyforivka. In the Slobozhanske sector, Russian troops have improved their tactical position near Maryine and Pokrivka by capturing several forested areas. They are forming a “wedge” on the approaches to Krasnopillia. European Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis stated that the EU hopes to begin negotiations on Ukraine’s membership after a change of power in Hungary but does not consider 2027 a realistic scenario.
Sumy Direction
In the Krasnopillia sector of the Sumy region, units of the “North” troop grouping are putting more pressure on Ukrainian defenses east of Sumy. This has resulted in substantial casualties among the personnel of the Ukrainian 119th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade. According to operational data, one of this brigade’s battalions has lost all combat capability due to heavy fighting in the Novodmytrivka–Pokrivka–Krasnopillia area.
In an attempt to salvage the situation, the Ukrainian side is transferring motivated “Kraken” units to the Krasnopillia sector to carry out tasks as blocking detachments. This is being done to prevent the further advance of Russian troops and to stop mass desertion in their brigades.
Russian units have widened the gap in Ukrainian defenses in the Pokrivka and Novodmytrivka areas by clearing most of the Velykyi Forest. The advance continues toward Krasnopillia, and Russian units are fighting for Mykhailivka, a settlement connected to Krasnopillia by a river. The flanks are under pressure: Most of Stepok has been captured, and fighting continues on the eastern and southern outskirts of Riasne and near Tarutyne. South of Myropilske (north of Stepok), Russian units have taken control of Prokhody and Maryine. They are advancing toward Velykyi Prikol and Petrushivka and fighting on the outskirts of Turia.
Russian troops east of Sumy have concentrated their efforts and are conducting offensive operations towards the regional center along two main directions. The first is from Demydivka to Osoyivka, and the second is from Viazove to Krasnopillia. Simultaneously, Ukrainian defense units are being pushed back on the flanks. The offensive is ongoing along the entire combat line from the forested areas south of Myropilske to Riasne. The further advancement of Russian units towards Osoyivka and northwest could threaten the rear of the Ukrainian troops defending the Sadky–Khrapivshchyna–Khotyn line. This could lead to the formation of an operational salient north and northeast of Sumy.
In the Slobozhanske sector, Russian units are advancing in the border zone across a wide area. South of Myropilske, near Maryine, and in the Pokrivka area, Russian troops have improved their tactical position by occupying several forested areas to the west of the state border.
A “wedge” is forming on the approaches to Krasnopillia, where Russian units have occupied fairly large, forested ravines. Furthermore, according to Ukrainian sources, Russian sabotage groups have reached the outskirts of Krasnopillia.
Dnipropetrovsk Direction
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, near Novopavlivka, Ukrainian counterattacks forced Russian troops to retreat from certain positions. Currently, the area is in a “grey zone.” Russian troops are striking identified Ukrainian positions in the northern part of Novopavlivka. In Ivanivka, fighting continues for control of the central and eastern parts of the village. The western part of Ivanivka is under Russian control, and the Ukrainian side has no control over the village. Advances toward Havrylivka have been temporarily suspended while Russian units consolidate on occupied lines and strengthen their defenses.
To the south, Ukrainian units are continuing their counterattacks towards Voskresenka and Sychnove. Both settlements are in a “grey zone.” A similar situation is developing in Berezove, where Ukrainian units continue to infiltrate. The Ukrainian goal in this sector is to cut off the salient through Ternove and Kamyshevakha.
Slaviansk Direction
In the direction of Slaviansk, fighting continues on the approaches to the Slaviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. Units of the 123rd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade are gradually pushing through Ukrainian troops’ defenses on the northern flank. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian side is conducting local sorties on the southern flank.
In the Kryva Luka area, the main clashes over the past month have been concentrated around the chalk mountains. Controlling them allows for advantageous observation of Ukrainian unit movements in the vicinity of Mykolaivka. Near Kalenyky, Russian troops have occupied part of the tree line to the west of the village. A semi-envelopment of Ukrainian units’ positions in Rai-Oleksandrivka is effectively forming from the north. This advance is supported by drone operators from the 25th Army who destroy supply transport, thereby disrupting the Ukrainian rotation.
Ukrainian units are conducting local sorties near Lypivka and Nykyforivka to prevent Russian troops from straightening the front south of Rai-Oleksandrivka and capturing the settlement. Russian assault groups are advancing from Dibrova towards the dried-up Siverskyi Donets–Donbas Canal. The competent allocation of resources and active efforts to disrupt logistics have effectively paralyzed the supply of Ukrainian units’ forward defense.
Kharkiv Direction
In the Kharkiv region, the “North” grouping’s assault groups continue to engage in fierce combat, forcing Ukrainian units to retreat from the state border. Russian troops struck Ukrainian unit personnel and equipment concentrations in the Rubizhne, Ternova, Kolodezne, Velykyi Burluk, Malynivka, and Vesele areas.
In the Vovchansk area, the Russian troops advanced up to 300 meters along six fronts. Intense firefights are ongoing in Vovchanski Khutory and the surrounding area, as well as near the border on the Zybine–Volokhivka–Okhrimivka line.
In the Velykyi Burluk area, Russian assault groups advanced up to 500 meters along three fronts.
Conclusion
Analysis of the operational situation indicates that high-intensity combat operations persist in all directions. In the Sumy area, Russian troops are expanding the wedge in the Krasnopillia sector. Having cleared most of the Velykyi Forest, they are fighting for Mykhailivka, Stepok, Riasne, and Tarutyne. In the Dnipropetrovsk area, following an active period of Ukrainian counterattacks, the intensity of clashes has decreased, and Russian units are consolidating their positions. In the Slaviansk area, the formation of a semi-envelopment of Rai-Oleksandrivka and the disruption of Ukrainian unit logistics create the conditions for a further advance towards the Siverskyi Donets–Donbas Canal. In the Slobozhanskyi sector, Russian troops operating in small groups are gradually occupying forested areas and forming a “wedge” towards Krasnopillia. In the Kharkiv area, Russian units are maintaining the initiative and advancing on the Vovchansk and Velykyi Burluk sectors.
In the context of international politics, an important event was the statement made by Valdis Dombrovskis, the European Commissioner for Economy. At an economic forum in the United States, Dombrovskis stated that the European Union hopes to begin negotiations on Ukraine’s membership after the change in leadership in Hungary. However, he does not consider 2027 to be a realistic timeline. Dombrovskis emphasized that the process is merit-based and that Ukraine still has much to do. Until recently, Hungary blocked negotiations on Ukraine’s membership, and its Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, criticized the idea of Ukraine joining the European Union. This statement suggests that, even under the optimistic scenario of Budapest changing its position, Ukraine’s prospects for integration remain distant and the process itself will be lengthy and complex.
