On the morning of November 18th, the city of Odessa came under another Russian attack. The city and its outskirts were targeted by Russian drones and missiles. Explosions thundered in different areas and there was smoke seen over the city.
Unfortunately, the attack resulted in civilian casualties. Ukrainian authorities, including Zelensky, rushed to blame the Russian military for the alleged attack on civilians but their claims were soon denied by the Ukrainian military. According to the official report by the Air Force of Ukraine, Russian Iskander ballistic missile was shot down by the air defense forces in Odessa, after which it fell into a residential area. Thus, the Ukrainian military revealed that the head of Zelensky’s Office, Ermak, and other Ukrainian officials, lied about a “targeted Russian strike on civilian infrastructure.”
According to the latest reports, at least 10 people died and about 40 others were wounded in Odessa. Moreover, the National Police of Ukraine reported that the victims included at least 7 policemen.
The footage from Odessa showed the civilian victims, as well as a missile falling on the city and the wreckage of the MIM-104F missiles of the US-made Patriot air defense system fallen in the residential area.
Ukrainian sources claimed that one of the videos showed the intercepted Russian missile falling but the video most likely shows the fall of an air defense missile because there was no major explosion in the area.
The details of the incident remain unclear. There were several strikes in the city. Some Russian missiles likely reached their targets. At least one could be intercepted by Ukrainian forces.
Judging by the local reports, there were several areas, where people were affected by the debris and not all of them were filmed. It is not yet clear what exactly caused the deaths of people, the fall of debris from a downed Russian missile or a missile launched by Patriot.
The analysis of the footage revealed that the wreckage of the MIM-104F missile for Patriot system fell near the building of the Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. According to unconfirmed reports, it was destroyed or heavily damaged as a result of the strike.
According to other local reports, a sanatorium of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) was destroyed. Ukrainian sources also spread reports that a civilian educational facility was attacked, accompanied with old fake videos.
The incident in Odessa and claims by Ukrainian officials raise doubts. The only thing is clear. The Ukrainian military does not stop deploying air defense systems in the cities. As a result, the number of civilians killed by the Ukrainian air defense is growing. The footage from Odessa also revealed that the Ukrainian military was supplied with the MIM-104F anti-aircraft guided missiles used with the Patriot PAC-3 air defense systems, the most modern version designed to destroy ballistic missiles, that are deployed in Odessa but fail to repel the constant Russian strikes.
