On July 31st, Alexey Zhuravko, a former Ukrainian MP, revealed documents from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which shows the state of the Armed Forces.
Most of the enlists are reportedly leaving for Poland. There is nobody left that can fight. And even if there were people that could fight, there was no way to pay them.
Most of the information comes from a letter from the Head of the General Staff Directorate – Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Major General N. Dumenko to the Chief of General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces General of the Army of Ukraine V.Muzhenko.
The name of the letter is the following:
“On the outflow of servicemen from military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”

“Since the beginning of 2019, 9386 servicemen have been dismissed from military service in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.”
Separated into the different departments – the Land Forces lost 6227 people; Air Force – 1049 people; Naval Forces – 630 people; Airborne Assault 522 troops; Special Operations forces – 147; and all other departments – 811.
Of these 81% simply didn’t wish to conclude their next contract and were released when their previous one expired.
The layoffs of military personnel remain high compared to the same period last year. During the same period of 2018, 6,316 people were released, including 4289 (67.9%) due to the expiration of contract.
The Major General said that despite attempts to keep personnel, they are still leaving:
“… the outflow of military personnel continues, despite the substantial range of implemented motivational factors (increased cash support for military personnel, introduction of compensation for housing for ordinary and non-commissioned officers, increased additional payments for completing tasks in the joint forces operation on the line of demarcation, for the particulars of military service and etc.).”
Inflation and the ever-deepening decline in the Ukrainian economy led to the fact that “… last year’s increased pay for contract servicemen lost competitiveness. According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the average wage in Ukraine in March 2019 exceeded the minimum cash security for servicemen and amounted to 10,237 hryvnia. Monetary compensation for sublease housing does not cover the real cost of sub-leasing, and the provision of new hostels takes a long time.”
Zhuravko, then described other various financial bonuses, but they also appear unsuccessful.
“It is clear that not always the money allowance can raise the morale of warriors. Especially when it comes to Bandera formations (the Volunteer Battalions), where alcoholics, drug addicts, marginalists of the “broad profile” were recruited.”
It is also showing that hazing, criminal looting of various villages appear to not contribute to the morale of the “Bandera-Nazi soldiers.” Surprisingly, it led to discipline deteriorating rapidly.
Finally, Zhuravko underlines that the failing Volunteer Battalions and the falling apart of the “mightiest Army in Europe” are also showing for the entire Ukrainian country, which despite loud promises by President Volodymyr Zelensky and his new upcoming Parliament are doing very little to stabilize the situation in the country.
Even “the United States and its Euro-NATO partners will not be able to keep in integrity, since the historical cracks in the “hull” of the sinking ship “Ukraine” cannot be repaired , especially in the raging waves of the global crisis.”

Meanwhile, former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s TV channel – 5 Kanal, showed a report on a children’s camp in Cherkassy, and told a story about patriotic education.
Children are taught military affairs, and one of the mentors has a fascist chevron – of the SS-Totenkopfverbände (Death’s Head).
This may be in connection with the pitiful excuse that the Ukrainian troops gave earlier, saying that they simply wore it not because it is related to Nazism, but because they taught it’s a pirate symbol (similar to the Jolly Roger).

The Soviets signed the M-R pact after the British, French and Russians couldn’t come to terms on a military alliance against Germany. The major sticking point was the Poles refusal to allow Soviet troops to transit Polish territory to fight the Germans in the event of an attack on Poland. The Red Army was in no condition to fight the Germans in 1939 and wouldn’t be for 4 years so the Soviets signed a deal with the germans instead. This all happened in a matter of days in August 1939.
Germany was always going to invade the Soviet Union as the main event of WW2. Hitler knew this, the French and British knew this, the Poles knew this and so did Stalin. Lebensraum and the destruction of “jewish bolshevism” was the cornerstone of Nazi FP from the beginning.

My post dealt with the relationship between Nazi Germany , the USSR, Britain and France in the lead up to the german invasion of Poland and the start of WW2 in Europe.
The USSR’s relationship to Finland and the Baltic States is another, far more complicated matter. Up until the Russian revolution they were part of the Russian empire. They gained independence during the revolution but as I understand it Stalin still considered them Russian territory to be won back by force.
I’m not saying that’s right but at the time …. in the days before nuclear weapons, superpowers and the UN …. that’s the way these things were settled between nations. I’m not making judgements on either the Nazi’s or the USSR and I’m certainly not going to judge either by the morals and ethics of the 21st century. If you do that you can’t begin to understand history.
I do know both the USSR and Germany were between a rock and a hard place in 1939. Germany needed space to grow and to get out from under the terms of crippling war reparations. The USSR was Germany’s target for living space. they both did what they had to do to survive as nations.

Moreover, it was aggressive as well as defensive, see the 30 Sept. 1938 ultimatum by the Polish Govt., to Benes in Prague (take-over of the border territories in what is now Slezko-Morava province, CZ, and Zilina region, SK). This is why Litvinov was replaced by Molotov, a much harder man (Molotov was a logistics expert also, involved in early 1930s in managing mass population movements for industrialization purposes of the Five Year Plan, these are forced movements in many cases, and later, in GPW, tank production head, Litvinov was more a pure career diplomat). The Molotov pact was a triple cross on the Poles after the Poles double-crossed the Czechs.

Poland’s value to Stalin in 1940 was as a buffer against German invasion. The Germans were going to invade Poland …. Stalin knew that. Stalin also knew that Germany was going to invade Russia as soon as they took care of France.
Stalin knew that Germany was going to invade France after Poland because Germany fought WW1 on two fronts and faced defeat and he wasn’t going to make that mistake again.
In 1940 Stalin could have given all of Poland to the Germans however if they did they would lose that buffer against invasion so they agreed not to attack the Germans on the condition that Germany ceded the Baltic states, half of Poland and a portion of Bessarabia controlled by Romania at the time.
In retrospect it’s a good thing that Stalin had the Baltic states and Poland as buffers because if he didn’t Germany would have been weeks ahead of schedule during Barbarrossa and Moscow and the war would likely have been lost to the germans

Buffers, as in using defensive depth to protect an asset, is an age old military strategy that every nation covets. What do you think the purpose of NATO is?
