The Russian Acting Governor of the Kherson region estimated the Ukrainian losses on the Kherson frontlines in the first half of August 2023.
According to the reports of the Russian official, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) lost about 400 servicemen, including killed and wounded, from August 1 to August 15 in the Kherson region alone. Up to 100 of them were destroyed in boats while trying to cross the Dnieper River and land on the eastern bank which is under Russian control.
The AFU also suffered losses in equipment. Russian counter-battery fire destroyed 18 howitzers, including 3 US-made M777s, 22 mortars, 3 self-propelled guns, one Grad MLRS. During the indicated period, 3 foreign-made self-propelled SAMs, about 30 vehicles and an ammunition depot were destroyed. Russian artillery fire also destroyed 30 positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Russian official added that a significant part of the personnel of the Ukrainian forces deployed in the region are not highly motivated Nazis, professional military nor foreign mercenaries, but ordinary mobilized Ukrainian men.
“Heavy losses and senseless death of their comrades cause stir among the Ukrainian military. As a result, they do not want to die from shells or drown in the river.”
The decline in morale among Ukrainian servicemen was greatly influenced by the absence of commanders in military positions. i don’t know if the 1 in 4 to 1 in 8 number is still a reliable proximation for this stage of the war. and the 400 number is dead and wounded, so around 80 dead, 320 wounded. dividing by 4 you have 20 russians that have also died. so i’d say between 5 and 20 would be a more reliable proximation.
