On the night of May 1, the Armed Forces of Ukraine resumed attempts to launch drone strikes in the Russian rear regions. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of six Ukrainian UAVs in four different Russian regions at night.
According to the Russian military, Ukrainian drones were destroyed in intercepted by Russian air defense forces in the following regions:
- 3 over the territory of the Voronezh region;
- 1 over the territory of the Ryazan region;
- 1 over the territory of the Belgorod region;
- 1 over the territory of the Kursk region.
The Russian Voronezh, Belgorod and Kursk regions are located near the Ukrainian border and are regularly targeted by Ukrainian drones, amid the constant Ukrainian shelling in the border settlements. In its turn, the Ryazan region is located about 450 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

It is possible that the facility was damaged by the destroyed Ukrainian UAV.
This is not the first Ukrainian attack that targeted the local Ryazan refinery. On May 15, 2023, another UAV attack was reportedly repelled by the company’s security and resulted in no damage. On January 19, 2024, a small fire broke out on the territory of the refinery, but it was not clear it was the result of a drone strike. The latest attack took place on the morning of March 13, 2024. As a result of the fire, 2 of the 4 primary oil refining units – AVT-4 and AT-6 were damaged. The AVT-4 installation was restarted by March 28, and the launch of AT-6 was scheduled for March 31, 2024.
The oil refinery in Ryazan is a large fuel and oil facility, which is located in the southeastern outskirts of Ryazan. It is one of the top 4 leading refineries in Russia in terms of refining volumes and product range. The refining capacity is more than 17 million tons/year of oil.

the delivery of atacms is a big breakthrough – big bonus to ukraine. it could basically make crimea militarily worthless.
crimea also serves as a key logistics hub for putin’s war effort. russia moves critical supplies such as ammunition, heavy armor, fuel, food, and medical equipment from the krasnodar region to crimea by road, rail, and ferries and other ships. much of the supplies and manpower move north through the peninsula into the russian-occupied parts of the kherson and zaporizhzhya regions.
it’s a legit target the question is rather what effect it has. it’s a refinery that means it’s for domestic use it doesn’t have any effect on the russian oil export or it’s income and 90% is repaired and back into operation in 2-3weeks and the last few % takes just a little bit longer. since russia has vast reserves of refined fuel it doesn’t in anyway affect the capability to supply the domestic market and the war. it’s good pr for ukraine and make headlines in western media
