A Ukrainian drone strike killed five people, including two children, in the Russian border regions of Kursk, Acting Governor Alexey Smirnov said on June 29.
“Last night, a Ukrainian drone attacked a residential building in the village of Gorodishche in the Rylsky District. Tragically, the attack killed five people, including two small children. Another two members of the family were taken to the Rylsky District Hospital in serious condition. I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of those killed,” the governor wrote on his official Telegram channel.
The attack was with a “copter”-style drone, he added, a small device that can be fitted to carry grenades or other explosives that are dropped over targets.
This was not the only Ukrainian attack on Russian territory in the last 24 hours. Overnight, Russian air defenses intercepted six drones which were launched by Kiev forces, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
In a statement, the ministry said that two drones were shot down over the Tver region, one over the Bryansk region, one over the Belgorod region and two more drones over the Crimean Peninsula. No damage or casualties were reported by Russian media.
There were however losses in Belgorod as a result of Ukrainian shelling. Regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram that Kiev forces fired 96 rounds of munitions at the border region over the past 24 hours.
A man suffered injuries in the settlement of Prilesyse as a result of the shelling, according to the governor, who also said that two suicide drones attacked the city of Belgorod, injuring another man.
The Kiev regime stepped up attacks on Russian territory this year, killing and wounding dozens of civilians, mainly in border regions.
In response, the Russian military resumed strikes against military infrastructure and affiliated power facilities in Ukraine last March. It also launched a limited ground operation in the Kharkiv region, the source of most recent Ukrainian attacks on Kursk and Belgorod.
