On the night of August 18, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched new wave of drone strikes in the Russian border regions. Unlike the recent attacks, the night strikes were not that massive but the Ukrainian military finally managed to inflict some damage to Russian rear facilities.

According to the official report by the Russian Ministry of Defense, last night Russian air defense forces destroyed five Ukrainian UAVs over the Russian territory. They included two Ukrainian drones in the Belgorod region, another drone in the Kursk region. Two more UAVs were destroyed in the Rostov region.

At least several Ukrainian UAVs attacked a large fuel depot located near the town of Proletarsk in the Rostov region. The governor of the region confirmed the strikes.

According to local reports, the first Ukrainian drone was intercepted near the facility at about 2 am local time. The wreckage fell on the depots. As a result, a large fire broke out in the area. Firefighters arrived at the scene and began extinguishing the fire, but they were interrupted by a repeated attack by Ukrainian drones early in the morning. According to the footage, there were two fire spots at the facility. The fire was quite strong, a fire train reportedly came to the area.

One of the most massive Ukrainian attacks in the Russian rear was launched on the night of August 14, when Russian air defense forces intercepted 117 UAVs. Most of them likely targeted Russian rear military airfields in the Voronezh, Volgograd and Nizhny Novgorod regions. The attack failed. Unable to attack military facilities in the Russian rear, the Armed Forces of Ukraine resumed strikes on Russian fuel depots and energy infrastructure.
