The Armed Forces of Ukraine launched strikes on the city of Lugansk, the capital of the Lugansk People’s Republic. The local Russian authorities confirmed the attacks. The Ukrainian military again used the terrorist tactics of double strikes aimed to inflict maximum losses to the emergency services. The attack was launched with NATO missiles, since the Ukrainian military has no Soviet-made weapons left capable to reach Russian rear cities.
The first strike on Lugansk was launched in late evening on May 27. The attack on the city was launched with cluster munition. According to preliminary reports the shelling was carried out by the US-made HIMARS MLRS. Later some reports claimed that the US-made ATACMS missiles.
Russian air defense forces intercepted several missiles, but at least one of them struck the city. A fire broke out as a result of the attack. The local sources reported casualties.
Emergency workers, law enforcement agencies and ambulances rushed to the scene. When the firefighters began to extinguish fire, Ukrainian Nazis launched the second strike, again with cluster munition aimed to inflict maximum damage to manpower. According to preliminary reports, the second attack was repelled and more casualties were avoided.
The local authorities did not provide details on the target of the attack and the exact number of victims. Most of the Russian military sources reported damage to civilian facility. According to some unconfirmed reports, the target of the attack could be the Voroshilovgrad Higher Military Aviation School of Navigators located on the outskirts of the city. The facility could be used for accommodation of Russian servicemen. Any footage from the city is yet to confirm the results of the attack.
Unlike the neighboring city of Donetsk, Lugansk is targeted less often by the Ukrainian military. The Russian military secured the local population after it pushed the frontlines to the west. However, NATO warmongers provided Ukrainian Nazis with long-range missiles that can reach the city and are again threatening the lives of local civilians. On the morning of May 20, the Ukrainian military targeted the village of Yubileyny located on the outskirts of Lugansk with French-made missiles.
