On May 5, Ukrainian forces celebrated another “victory”. Videos showing an aircraft intercepted in Ukraine was widely spread on the social media with reports that a Russian Su-25 was shot down near the town of Orekhovo in the Zaporozhye region.
However, later Russian sources shared another video from a drone showing that a Ukrainian aircraft was destroyed over the Donbass front lines. It was reportedly intercepted by Ukrainian forces. The pilot was reportedly killed as a result of the accident.
UPDATE:
The plane shot down in the Zaporozhye region on May 5, was identified as a Su-27P of the Ukrainian Air Force, deployed with the AFU 9th brigade, in Ozernoye, in the Zhytomyr region. The number of the aircraft was confirmed by the footage of the debris.
On May 6, the General Staff of Ukraine in its morning summary confirmed that an aircraft was downed, but claimed it was Russian. Thus, it was once again confirmed that the official data shared by the AFU cannot be trusted.

How do they find them? The only time they can be “seen” electronically is when they switch on their targeting radar. Remember scud hunting in Iraq during the Gulf war? The USA had special aircraft over the Iraqi desert and special forces teams trying to hunt down scud launchers … Iraq launched 30 missiles without the USA finding a single launcher. There are a lot more places to hide launchers in populated and forested Ukraine than in the open Iraqi desert.
The tactic the Ukrainians are using is called the Serbian defence. They move often and wait in ambush then scoot once a missile has been fired. Very hard to hunt them down.

From the point of view of Russia, this military operation is limited, it is NOT a full blown war. Else it would be finished long ago.
An intelligent observer can understand why russia is moving slowly (but surely)… to minimize casualties while maximizing the damage of the other part. The “other part” is not just Ucraine, but this is another topic.

We seen this over and over again during the Iraq war. Where it was called blue on blue! The Americans in particular have a habit of hitting their own units or that of their nato allies like the crew of a British army tank in Iraq from a US airforce fast jet killing all members of the tank crew or striking their own American ground troops in bombing runs and so on. It looks like the Ukrainian military are following the same path with a less than professional approach to their actions. If I was on active service with any of the Ukrainian military units I would be more worried about becoming another blue on blue statistic and constantly looking over my shoulder to see what idiot was literally calling the shots.

Accurately identifying friendly/enemy aircraft is crucial and the further away and faster the aircraft is moving, the more difficult it is. These UKROP fools couldn’t identify their own mother-in-law if she flew past them on a broomstick.

Except that in the photo & video of the supposed crashed jet is definitely NOT an Su-25 …! Looks like an Su-27 or later model. …Possibly even a Mig. …but it is not an Su-25….which only has one vertical stabilizer
agree. The tail section and the lack of armoured ‘bathumb seems to indicate a MiG-29 or Su-27 type, surely not a Sukhoy 25 that also, would habe been more resistant to a MANPADS.
