During the largest attack on the Russian city of Belgorod on December 30, 2023, which claimed lives of at least 25 civilians, the Ukrainian military attempted to break through Russian border and launch ground attack on the city.
According to Russian military sources, forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine numbering up to a company tried to break through the border. Several dozen servicemen were supported by armored vehicles, armed with machine guns.
The attackers were met by Russian forces on the very border. As a result of the battle, the Ukrainian group was defeated there was no breakthrough on the Russian territory.
The attack was repelled as a result of the joint operation by different Russian military services, including border guards, servicemen of the Defense Ministry, Rosgvardiya, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB.
Moscow has officially classified the attack on Belgorod as a terrorist act. Moreover, it was aimed at covering up an attempted ground operation.
It is supposed that the Ukrainian military supported by NATO intelligence may attempt offensive operation across the Russian border in order to bring war to the Russian territory, destruct the Russian military from their offensive in the Donbass and destruct the public from Kiev’s defeats. Ukrainian forces have no means to launch any large-scale offensive operations; but they may attempt a breakthrough towards one of the Russian cities located near the border, most likely Belgorod.
The ongoing attempts to cross the border in small groups result in growing losses but no gains on the ground or in the media. Taking into account that Zelensky’s team is better fighting in the MSM than on the battlefield, such senseless attacks are likely to continue, until Kiev runs out of professional servicemen.
