The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on September 7 that the Sever Group of Forces had repelled more attacks by Kiev forces in the Kursk direction.
The group thwarted two attacks near the settlements of Borki and Matveyevka, the ministry said in its daily briefing, adding that Kiev forces were also prevented from advancing close to the settlements of Korenevo and Russkaya Konopelka.
At least 20 Ukrainian troops were killed or wounded and two combat armored vehicles were destroyed during the failed attacks.
Additionally, the equipment and manpower of Ukraine’s 22nd, 61st, 115th mechanized, 80th, 82nd, 95th airborne assault and the 92nd Assault Vrigade as well as the 129th Territorial Defense Brigade were hit by Russian air and artillery strikes close to the settlements of Apanasovka, Vishnevka, Borki, Vnezapnoye, Gogolevka, Zamostye, Kazachaya Loknya, Kruglenkoye, Kurilovka, Lyubimovka, Malaya Loknya, Martynovka, Novoivanovka, Obukhovka, Snagost and Cherkasskaya Konopelka, according to the ministry.
Other strikes hit the reserves the 22nd, 61st mechanized, the 80th, 95th airborne assault brigades, the 1st National Guard Brigade as well as the 103rd, 106th, 107th, 113th and 118th territorial defense brigades near the settlements of Alekseyevka, Belopolye, Boyaro-Lezhache, Vladimirovka, Glukhov, Krasnopolye, Sumy, Khoten and Yampol in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
“Over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost more than 280 troops, 13 armored vehicles, including three tanks and ten armored combat vehicles, nine artillery pieces, including a 155 mm M777 howitzer made in the United States, 9 vehicles and an electronic warfare station,” the ministry said.
“In total, during military operations in the Kursk direction, the enemy lost more than 10,700 troops, 84 tanks, 41 infantry fighting vehicles, 74 armored personnel carriers, 609 armored combat vehicles, 348 vehicles, 82 artillery pieces, 24 multiple launch rocket system launchers, including seven M142 HIMARS and five M270 MLRS made in the U.S., eight anti-aircraft missile launchers, two transport and loading vehicles, 20 electronic stations and seven counter-battery radars, two air defense radars, eight units of engineering equipment, including two engineering vehicles for obstacle clearance and one UR-77 mine clearing unit,” it concluded.
Videos shared by the ministry and Russian media showed some of the recent strikes that hit Ukrainian troops, positions and equipment in the Kursk direction.
Since the start of the Ukrainian attack on Kursk last August, at least 31 Russian civilians have been killed and more than 143 others have been wounded. Moreover, the attack displaced more than 144,000 civilians. The fate of some 2,000 others who lived in areas attacked by Kiev forces remain unknown.
The Russian military has already halted the advance of Kiev forces in Kursk. Nevertheless, it is yet to launch a counter-attack to clear the region.
