On January 4, the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine (GUR) claimed that the Su-34 of the Russian Aerospace Forces was allegedly destroyed at the airfield in the Russian Chelyabinsk region. The plane was allegedly burned by a saboteur. The statement was supported by a video.
However, the footage itself and Russian reports denied the claims. The attempt to set fire to the aircraft failed.
The incident reportedly took place at the Shagol military airfield. The aircraft reportedly belonged to the aviation regiment of the 21st Mixed Aviation Division of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
On the evening of January 5, the Russian FSB reported on the detention of a Russian citizen who attempted to destroy Su-34 fighter-bomber in the Chelyabinsk region. The detainee was also involved in the arson attacks on communications and railway infrastructure facilities in the Republic of Dagestan in November and December 2023.
The number of Ukrainian sabotage attacks in Russia has significantly decreased over the past year. The effective operations of Russian security forces complicated recruitment and deployment of accomplices by the Ukrainian special services; but attempts of the Kie regime to inflict at least some damage in the Russian rear areas do not stop.
