A bloody incident took place in the Ukrainian Vinnitsya region. Servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine opened fire on police officers who tried to inspect their car.
Ukrainian police officers stopped a Suzuki Grand Vitara car to check the documents of the driver and passenger in the area between the villages of Florino and Elanets in the Gaisinsky district of the Vinnytsia region. One of the police officers had a body camera which filmed the conversation, which began quite calmly.
The passenger and the driver showed their cargo, which turned out to be some military equipment and weapons. Suddenly, the servicemen attacked the officers. As a result, one of the victims was killed, another officer was heavily wounded. Maxim Zaretsky, a 20-year-old private police officer, was killed, and Maxim Sharapansky, a police captain, was injured.
After the police shooting, the criminals’ car was spotted on its way to the Odessa region. Law enforcement agencies have launched a special operation to catch the criminals.
At first, the Ukrainian authorities tried to hide the fact that the crime was committed by the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; but then this information was leaked and confirmed. the criminals turned out to be father and son. Valery Vasilake was born in 1972 in Chornomin, Vinnytsia region, his son Vitaly was born in 1998. They both serve in the 28th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Odessa region.

The reasons of the attack remain unclear. Probably, the servicemen were transporting some stolen equipment and decided to get rid of the witnesses. It cannot be ruled out that the servicemen deserted from their military unit. Another reason could be the deep conflict between the military and all representatives of the ruling power in the country, the men who are hiding in the rear areas and do not go to the frontlines. Ukrainian servicemen are exhausted because of the poor conditions of the military service and no prospects of their demobilisation. A lot of them consider themselves ‘gods’ who are superior to all those men living their ordinary lives far from the horror of the war.
