The Ukrainian army keeps winning but only on social media. While the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue successful offensive operations in all directions, including around the strategically important Ukrainian stronghold in Kupyansk, Ukrainian military propaganda entered battle and declared another fake victory.
On October 18th, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (GUR) surprisingly declared control of the village of Kruglyakovka located on the eastern bank of the Oskol river south of Kupyansk. According to the official report, the Special Forces of the GUR together with the 77th separate aeromobile brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine took back control of the settlement and completed the mop up operation there.
Ukrainian operation lasted from October 7th to October 14th. The Russian military allegedly lost more than a platoon in close combat. Russian servicemen were captured prisoners and revealed some important reconnaissance data to the brave Ukrainian fighters. The routs used by the Russian military were mined, Ukrainian control of Kruglyakovka was allegedly secured.

There is no surprise that the brave special forces of the GUR enter media battles when the Ukrainian army is suffering another strategic defeat. In recent weeks, Russian forces have launched a series of successful offensive operations and largely expanded the zone of their control around the town of Kupyansk. Amid the Russian approach, the local Ukrainian authorities called on the evacuation of all the local residents who did not leave the war-torn town before. As a result, Ukrainians began to panic in fear of losing another strategically important town in the nearest future.
In an attempt to cheer the Ukrainians and their western patrons, the notorious GUR staged another fake victory. The officially shared footage shows the preparation of the command to the operation, reconnaissance UAVs filming the village and a small group of Ukrainian soldiers running between the houses and shooting hard around themselves and into empty basements. In fact, there was no real battle shown to support the claim. There is no platoon of the killed Russian forces seen on the streets. No captured Russian pows.
The area of the village of Kruglyakovka was inflamed by heavy battles for weeks. In mid-September, Russian forces broke through Ukrainian defense in the forests west of the settlement. In the beginning of October, they surrounded Kruglyakovka from the north and east and cut an important road to Kolesnikovka. After prolonged battles on the outskirts and pounding of Ukrainian hideouts with heavy bombs and artillery, the reports from the battlefield about Russian advance in the village came this week.
In fact, the village remained in the gray zone for a long time when the brave special forces of the GUR staged their victorious battle against the shadows. According to Russian military reporters, the operation was also observed by Russian UAVs and the film group came under Russian artillery shelling when retreating from the streets.

According to preliminary reports on the evening of October 20th, Kruglyakovka came under Russian control. The mop up operation was launched in the village. Moreover, Russian forces reportedly expanded the zone of their control west of the village and approached the Oskol River and the Senkovo railway station. Control of Kruglyakovka is of strategic importance. It allos the Russian military cut off the Ukrainian grouping on the eastern bank of the river south of Kupyansk. It was also an important logistics hub of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that assured military supplies on a wide front.
Clashes continue in the village of Kolesnikovka located north of Kruglyakovka.
The Russian army is also developing offensive and approached Kupyask from the north. Russian forces are expanding their zone of control west of Sinkovka. The railway station of Kulagovka is under their control despite Ukrainian counterattacks. At the same time, Russian forces are advancing south of Sinkovka. They have recently entered Petropavlovka and gained a foothold in its northern part.
