UN Aid Delivery To Rukban Camp In Syria Disrupted By US: Russian Military

The news agency TASS reports (source):

The delivery of humanitarian cargo to the Rukban camp near the Syrian city of Al-Tanf was disrupted by the US side, the head of the Russian center for reconciliation of conflicting sides in Syria has told reporters.

Reuters reported on Friday, citing a UN official in Damascus, that the delivery, scheduled for Saturday, was “delayed for logistical and security reasons.” According to the Russian Reconciliation Center head, Lt. Gen. Vladimir Savchenko, the convoy was to take over 450 tonnes of food and medicines to the refugee camp.

“Once again as a result of actions by the US side, which has been unable to fulfill its commitments to ensure safety within the 55-km radius around its base in Al-Tanf, the convoy’s departure was disrupted,” he said.

According to the Russian general, the Jaysh Maghawir al-Thawra militant group, tasked by the US forces with ensuring the safe passage of the convoy, was unable to create conditions for a successful humanitarian delivery.

“The issue of providing security guarantees to international convoys within the 55-km zone, which is under the US control, remains open,” Savchenko said.

He added that without US guarantees, aid deliveries would be extremely dangerous, because the Al-Tanf zone is swarming with “independent militants, who are not reporting to anyone and are capable of any provocations.”

Savchenko also said that militants in the Idlib de-escalation zone keep violating the ceasefire regime. Among other things, the Russian military detected shelling of western outskirts of Aleppo and the town of Tell-Bazam in the province of Hama.

You can call me Al

I do not understand, why the hell anyone should provide aid within the 55-km radius around its base in Al-Tanf, EXCEPT THE YANKERS.

R Trojson

Sounds like it is too dangerous to deliver the aid. Not sure why Russians believe they can give orders to the Americans. There must be a lot more to this story. Russians are saying “aid deliveries would be extremely dangerous, because the Al-Tanf zone is swarming with “independent militants, who are not reporting to anyone and are capable of any provocations.” Obviously too dangerous for Russians to get involved, better to blame it on the Americans.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

This is what is referred to as playing politics, I call it pure evil, which means it’s time to read behind the lines again. The UN doesn’t have to deliver this aid via Syria, it can just as easily deliver it through Iraq right next door, which is now even more secure and safer to travel through than the totally lawless desert areas around Al-Tanf. And they also have a nice highway that goes directly to the required destination at Rukban refugee camp as well, which means it’s actually the best of the 2 options taking all things into consideration. The UN could do that but it won’t, it doesn’t serve the purpose they’re really trying to achieve, which has nothing at all to do with relieving human suffering. The US won’t allow the aid convoy to enter it’s 55 km exclusion zone and instead want the aid convoy to set up a distribution point well outside of their 55 km exclusion zone. This would mean the refugees would have to travel at least 40 km away from their camp to get the aid anyway, and then also travel 40 km back to get home, a 2 to 3 hour trip. 7000 people needing food and medical aid with a 80 km round trip between them, I hope the UN is also going to supply a lot of vehicles for transport. But the Russian are rightfully opposed to this setup, they know it’ll leave the aid distribution point vulnerable to inevitable Isis attacks, and also know the US backed rebels, who are supposed to provide the security forces as part of the arrangement, will either 1, not be able to resist an Isis attack, or 2, just give the Isis fighters the aid without a fight, which has happened many times before with both supplies and weapons. Who would actually come up with this sort of mad proposal when there’s a much better option, only the US and the TQI controlled UN. The blame for the continued suffering at Rukban camp can be squarely placed at the feet of both the US and the UN.
