Late on March 25, unidentified gunmen killed two militants of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib.

The gunmen, who were riding a motorcycle, shot and killed the militants near the town of Termanin in the northeastern countryside of Idlib. The town is located between Turkey’s border and government-held areas in northern Aleppo.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, which was the most recent in a series of operations against HTS in Greater Idlib.

Around a week ago, a checkpoint of HTS on the northern entrance of Idlib city center came under attack. Two militants were injured. A mysterious group calling itself the “Abdullah Bin Anis Group” claimed responsibility for the attack. The group’s affiliation remains unclear.

HTS made several enemies while working to solidify its grip on Greater Idlib over the last few years. The terrorist group engaged in conflicts with other al-Qaeda factions as well as with Turkish-backed militants.

The recent attacks pose a serious challenge to HTS authority in Greater Idlib. Despite the group’s strict measures in the region, the attacks are getting bolder.
