Unidentified Gunmen Raided, Looted Militant Headquarters In Greater Idlib

Late on May 29, unidentified gunmen raided the headquarters of the Suqour al-Sham Brigades, a faction of the Turkish-backed National Front for Liberation, in the southern part of the Syrian region of Greater Idlib.

During the raid, the gunmen killed a commander of Suqour al-Sham known as Abdul Hamid al-Said. He was reportedly a regiment commander in the group’s 101st Brigade and at the same time the commander of the headquarter.

After killing al-Said, who was apparently on his own at the time of the attack, the gunmen stole all the weapons and military equipment which were stored in the headquarters.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, so far. Earlier this year, several similar attacks targeted the headquarters of Turkish-backed factions in Greater Idlib.

The headquarters is located in the town of Almastumah, where al-Qaeda’s Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the de-facto ruler of Greater Idlib, maintains a strong presence. The Turkish military also has a base near the town.

HTS may be behind the attack. The terrorist group has been working to crop the influence of Turkish-backed factions in Greater Idlib for a few years now.
