United States To Establish Military Base In Al-Shaddadi Town Near Iraqi Border

FILE IMAGE

According to opposition sources, the United States agreed with Jaysh Maghawir al-Thawra to establish a military base in the town of Al-Shaddadi in the southern Hasakah countryside, near the border with Iraq.

Abu Yaqoub, an adviser of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), said last week that the United States plans to build a military base in Al-Shaddadi. Abu Yaqoub said that the aim of the transfer of Jaysh Maghawir al-Thawra members from at Tanf to Al-Shaddadi is to take control of Deir Ezzor.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) troops had reached the Iraqi-Syrian border north of At Tanf and prevented the FSA and the US-led coalition troops from reaching the province of Deir Ezzor from the southern direction. However, it seems that the US-led coalition is still determined to do this.

The United States allegedly told Jaysh Maghawir al-Thawra that it was ready to set up the base in Al-Shaddadi and transfer 100 fighters from Jaysh Maghawir al-Thawra to it. According to Abu Yaqoub, the city was chosen because of its proximity to oil fields, indicating the desire of the FSA fighters to return to the illegal oil trade, and the desire of the United States to prevent the SAA from controlling the oil resources.

It’s worth mentioning that the SAA has thousands of fighters and about 100,000 civilians trapped in Deir Ezzour city under the ISIS siege. On the other hand, the FSA work in the trade of oil and arms and smuggling on the Syrian-Iraqi border had been one of the most important factors of the ISIS growth in the area in the past.

As Shaddaadi falls under the SDF and a force of one 100 fighters is nothing in the new Syria, they will be under control of the SDF abd dependent on their goodwill, just like the Ëlite”forces around Raqqah (at least those numer some 2 to 3k).

Imo SDF should only accept bases like these if these groups join the SDF.

Or trade for a base in Efrin with TOWs and SAM going directly to the YPG. The US has only been giving TOWs and SAMs to the islamo-fascists. It’s time for the YPG to extract more meaningful long term power for themselves from the US.

Pointless… Total waste of time(and is illegal as hell)

Trustin Judeau

It is . Transporting the FSA losers from Al Tanf to Shadadi will not change the reality that their capabilities are bad

Yes, and the American soldiers – don’t they just love it! Training and transporting Arabs all over the place. They are living the dream! ;)

The US doesn’t take a blind bit of notice of International Law. Like Israel it believes that Laws are for the rest of the world and it is exempt. The brazen hypocrisy of the US and Israel underscores why they are so deeply unpopular with most people on the planet. However, clearly they could not care less as long as they get what they want. Morever they get away with every transgression. However, one day it all may come back to “bite them in the arse”.

The number must be well over a hundred , to even be mentioned , but another American move , to disgrace the Kurdish .

Al-Shaddadi Town

Another area of Syria allowed to go into US control.

Presumably it will be a No Go Zone for the Syrian Military and Air Force.

Most helpful of Mr. Yaqoub to run off his mouth like that.

What a joke.. The USA forces should just shoot these 100 fighters and be done with this FSA fiasco. This is a failed mission with mission ooze that is drying up in the summer heat. If the US forces want to fight, they can go to Africa..

Jim Dean

This is really not the FSA, but mercenaries hired by the US and given the FSA banner to fight under, so they are “opposition”. There going after the oil assets should make then fair game for the SAA and the Russians, and of course it makes a joke out of the recent SE Syria ceasefire where the US said it backs Syria territorial integrity.

Kell

Annnnnd there goes the border. They wont attack Deir Ezzor they will do a run down the border, sit out in the desert giving the US an excuse to build fire support and special forces bases to block the Shia Crescent.

And a bit of oil for pocket money. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/206d73b350e53289a9881a0ed79b80e716436fff9a5a34044a711c256b6f1420.jpg

Even if this FSA group is just 100 strong, the plan is to recruit former ISIS fighters as, ISIS begins to fall apart. They had already done that before they were relocated from al-Tanf. Thus, ISIS will morph into the FSA.

YPG/SDF , see yellow area in map below, has been reluctant to go further South from their lines. That is why this area of map has been so quiet for months. And that is also why the FSA was airlifted into Al-Shaddadi , which on the map is actually “Ash Shaddaday” (see below).

The distance between the FSA location on down to Deir ez-Zor (see the red area) is about 58 miles. There are valuable oil fields within a 30 mile radius of Deir ez-Zor. The SAA is still in a very strong position where they presently are, with a reported 10,000 fighters. As ISIS collapses in the coming weeks, the SAA will rapidly expand outward from Deir ez-Zor to secure the resources within that 30 mile radius before the FSA can get to them. That is why the SAA has held out for so long at Deir ez-Zor. Their moment in the spotlight will soon be at hand.

Hope your right but I cant see Isis collapsing, the Euphrates valley is its new capital/center and Deir Ezzor is at the center of that. Ive seen vids from PMU flying Isis out of Mosul seeming redeploying them so wouldnt be surprised if some rebranding nonsense were to be attempted.

Housewife From Hampshire

How come, when they have not been invited to the party? Does that mean that the Syrian Forces can pop over to the US and build a military base?
