Unknown UAV On Ukrainian Territory

On July 11, an unidentified UAV landed on Ukrainian territory. The AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) are still speculating about it.

The Ukrainian military discovered on its territory the wreckage of an aircraft that was controlled from the ground. The Ukrainian Armed Forces had difficulty identifying the exact model of the UAV because it was badly damaged.

Later, one of the Ukrainian fighters made a comment about the drone: “Not CUB, not Lancet – no one knows what it is. A kamikaze UAV with a 3 kg shaped charge. Electric, push-pull propeller. There is a transparent dome on the nose and a camera on the suspension…”.

Initially, no one could determine the UAV’s version accurately, as the drone was smashed to pieces. All that was left of the drone were the insides and broken parts. Basically, the drone included microchips, chips, wires and hull parts. As a result, the Ukrainian military assumed that the drone was homemade.

However, after conducting more detailed analyses, the Ukrainian military published a statement indicating that the UAV belonged to Belarus. Moreover, they managed to identify the model – the UAV kamikaze “Chekan”.

“Chekan” is a tactical drone of single-use, which takes off with the help of a launcher. It is used to engage lightly armored vehicles, manpower, artillery and shelters. It has a range of 25 km from the launch point. The kamikaze drone can carry high-explosive or shaped charge ammunition. The maximum takeoff weight of the drone is 12 kg, and the weight of the warhead is about 2 kg. The drone has a cruising speed of 90 km/h. In guidance mode “Chekan” can rise to an altitude of up to 200 m. Also, the UAV is used for aerial reconnaissance from heights up to 350 m.

The Belarusian side has not officially commented on the Ukrainian military’s statement, but in mid-May this year, on air of the “Belarus 1” TV channel, Dmitry Pantus, chairman of the State Committee for Military Industry, said that the drone is being tested and will be added to the Belarusian army’s armament by the end of this year.
