Upgraded Syrian Air Defense System Will Be Fully Centralized: Russian Official

Sergei Bobylev/TASS

The upgdraded Syrian air defense system will be centralized and controlled by one controller, according to Viktor Bondarev, the chairman of the Russian parliament’s upper house Defense and Security Committee.

Bondarev added that the united Syrian air defense system will be established after the S-300 system will be delivered to the country’s military. This, according to Bondarev, will allow to boost security of Russian troops in the war-torn country and to prevent IL-20-like incidents.

On September 30, the Russian Defense Ministry’s TV channel Zvezda reported that Sparta 3 heavy-lift cargo ship had reached the Russian naval facility in Syria’s Tartus. Sparta 3 is one of the biggest ships employed by Russia to provide the Syrian military with military supplies. It’s interesting to note that Sparta 3 arrived Tartus after the decision to supply S-300 systems to Syria.

thats very good it will eliminate the main problem in all arab armys the shit chain of command witch needs 2h in order to get to goahead to shoot. This is a good development for the SAA…..lets hope they actually learn unlike other arab degenerates like the Sauidis.

Ronald

FYI, the Shia and Christians in the SAA are not Arabs.

Daniel Miller

no shit

Barba_Papa

Centralized chain of command has always been a big thing in Russian air defense systems, going back to Soviet times. I hope it will be more robust then Iraq’s system was when the US knocked it out in the opening salvo of Desert Storm.

I just hope that it will effective and that we see at least a couple of Israeli F-16’s knocked out the sky. Extra credit bonus points if an Israeli F-35 gets knocked out as well. If only for the F-35 apologists having to eat humble pie and come up with creative explanations as to why this does not mean the F-35 is a dud.

Manuel Flores Escobar

Iraqi air defense were effective during desert storm operation….53 aircraft were shot down in less than a month…included F-14/15/16….the problem is that Irak lacked of air defense system capable vs masive incoming cruise missile….

You can call me Al

Are you sure ?; I have never heard of the 53 aircraft shot down. Any link you can provide, would be appreciated.

Manuel Flores Escobar

search in google list of US losses desert storm operation…

Manuel Flores Escobar

Barba_Papa

No, they lost their chain of command alright. But Western air forces where still vulnerable at that time. Don’t forget that for decades Western air forces had been training to fly low to avoid radar detection. The downside of that was that it made them vulnerable to anti-aircraft fire, of which the Iraqis had shitloads. The RAF lost a LOT of Tornados because their runway cratering systems, which they were only ones who had one, forced them to fly low over the runways, exposing them Iraqi AAA batteries, because airfields are usually the most heavily defended pieces of enemy real estate. Which makes you wonder that if WWIII had happened and NATO had gone up against the more capable Red Army and WarPac armies NATO airforces would have been shredded away within days using those tactics.

This is why US and NATO aircraft only use smart bombs from high altitude these days. Desert Storm forced them to fly high again. That’s when their losses pretty much stopped.

Manuel Flores Escobar

And now they use long range air to ground missile to avoid new SAM systems like BukM2 and Pantsir as we can see in Syria…

Barba_Papa

Yup. Because warfare is always a race between offensive weapons and defensive weapons. And while the West loves to go to war, it hates to suffer casualties. At least those who make it to the evening news. And downed aircraft very much make the evening news.

Wolfgang Wolf

those are just the “official” numbers…. ever wondered, where have all the F-117 gone?)) and what happened to the UK airforce by numbers?

Manuel Flores Escobar

UK lost 7 Tornados

occupybacon

have you seen the Aliens on YouTube?

I assume there are back up control rooms!?; sorry I am showing my ignorance here perhaps.

A Marine F-35B was just lost – pilot ejected – right as air-frame coming on-line for Marine service. Crashed outside Marine South Carolina air base. Interesting, as for years both Lockheed & Pentagon have kept lowering or dodging the bar, vis-a-vis the original spec-requirements, but real world conditions may be way harder to fudge.

Barba_Papa

Yeah, but military aircraft crash all the time, usually through pilot related errors. New type of aircraft, new abilities, learning curves for the pilots, you see it all the time. Most accidents with the F-104 and F-16 in NATO service were in the early years, then they bottomed out to a slower pace.

I strongly dislike the F-35, but this accident is just too soon to attribute it to it being a dud. There is after all that transition/learning curve.

It getting shot out of the air however, now THAT would be icing on the cake. Even better when its an IAF F-35, as the Israeli version is probably the best version, with the most advanced avionics. At least that’s whats in people’s minds, so if an Israeli F-35 gets downed, that’s double bonus points.

v76

As much as I know the F35 is a flop (even in full working order) I think you’re probably right, most aircraft crash on landing and take off (usually from operator error) and this one being just outside the base…

Attrition47

I have the impression that the F35 is supposed to be more of an AWACS than a dogfighter but that a tin opener is all that anyone needs to take it apart….

Selbstdenker

You should inform yourself a bit better about the Iraq war and US action before the hot war. Us employed 2 no fly zones over north and south Iraq long before the actual ground war started. During the course of the no fly zone US exercised daily inspection flight, and whenever an Iraqi air defense system came online to track their movements, this system was considered hostile and was attacked an destroyed. During the pretext of the ground war, Iraqi air defense was reduced to below 20% of it former strength, hence not much capability left.

Barba_Papa

Uh, maybe you should read up, the two no fly zones were established AFTER the 1991 war, when Saddam crushed the Shia uprisings in the south and the Kurdish uprising in the north. Prior to Desert Storm there were no no-fly zones, and the Iraqi air defense system was fully intact and had to be taken out in the opening hours of Desert Storm. What you’re describing is the long 12 year period between operations Desert Storm (‘ 91) and Iraqi Freedom (‘ 03).

Sinbad2

You got the year right but it was to protect the Kurds. Iraq was an American vassal, up until Iraq invaded Kuwait, so Iraq had no AA. Back then the Patriot missile system was only 6 years old.

Barba_Papa

Did you not see the images of Baghdad lighting up like a new years fireworks show during Desert Storm? I did? I saw it live on TV back then. Iraq had MASSIVE AAA and missile defenses. It had after all been in a war with Iran for 8 years. And until the Iranian air force got crippled by US sanctions it was all over Iraq. The two countries even engaged in attacking each others cities, WWII style.

Iraq had one of the densest air defense networks in the world in 1991, and defeating it was a major priority to US military planners. Luckily, the USSR and French, who had sold it to the Iraqi’s, were more then willing to provide the US with all the information they needed to do so. Probably why it was taken out so quickly. They knew exactly what to hit.

Selbstdenker

some of the “live” footage on CNN was not so live at all. Also pictures out of Bagdad showing supposedly AA fire was faked. just by seing something on TV does not make it real.

Justin

This is HUGE!

20 times better than a Russian revenge attack! Now SYRIA (not Russia) can SHUT them out or SHOOT them down! Russian’s will refuse to be held responsible for any Israeli or coalition aircraft being downed! And if they do get shot down, it will only prove what the other sides are not capable of! I think that Israel will be reluctant to TRY the F-35 against this no fly zone because it might just prove how crappy they really are! The only way they will DARE to shut these systems down will be to do it via Special Ops. But im sure that will result in Israeli captures or deaths! This means deals will be made to get their soldiers back! But i have always thought that for every single S-300 system that might be destroyed via clandestine Israeli operations, Russia can teach them a lesson by replacing that single system with an additional 3 S-300’s! Basically it means that any force against this “S-300” decision IS FUTILE!

GAME OVER!

Promitheas Apollonious

systems as S300, dont get destroyed with words and threats. Also is not only the S300 that will be operational into one command center but everything exist in Syria.

And Putin is but one man in russia not russia itself. I am with the believe military is taking over in Syria and no longer politicians decide what the fate of the russian armed forces and safety. If I am right then the grace time for Putins `partners` is over and I am sure they know it.

Tommy Jensen

All centralisation is stupid and too vulnerable, and a single break down can lead to disaster.

stary ujo

Please Russians , dont speak what will be , how vill be , you doing acts , no empty phrases !!

Justin

WINNING is what they are doing!

Jesus

Chess moves are thought out thoroughly and are intended to mask the overall strategy and intent, and at the same time defeat the opposition.

Tommy Jensen

Not. True chess moves penetrates everything and is a game changer making everybody silent, like when Russia shot the kalibr missiles from the Caspian Sea. Masks is always bluff.

Zo Fu

Israel will try everything to knock S300 systems out. They already stated that they will destroy Russian S300 systems if “used against Israel”. And by the way, what does mean “used against Israel’ ? Does it mean shooting Israeli warplane down ? Lock Israeli plane on radar screen ? Just be able to see Israeli planes on Israeli territory ? They will use every excuse just to justify their wicked and cowardly actions. S300 will be attacked by Israeli jets just after all components will be installed in Syria. You can bet on it. 100% probability.

Promitheas Apollonious

it be very interesting to see them try and this time I hope the russians dont stop the syrians defend their air space, or hit where the attack is coming from, on land.

S Melanson

see my post above

Brother Thomas

If so, the Russians will likely not take this lying down. It was a strategic decision to arm the Syrians with the S-300 in response to Israel using the Il-20 as human shield for its attacking F16’s to hide behind. Instead of thinking about how to destroy the S-300, Israel should be debating whether its unending belligerence and attempts to destabilise countries in its neighbourhood is in its best interest.

Joe

So far only arrogant boosting by Israel . Certainly love to see their planes over Lebanon or Syria now.

Use their f35? Well Syria can shoot lots of birds…

Spit

“arrogant boosting by Israel” Talk is cheep, I do not have intimate information, but I think the Russians deployed the non export version. I am an odd person, my Hobbies in real life include Biological Chemistry. I strongly believe those S-300’s are not export. I strongly feel the S-300 deployed by Russia are capable of taking down Satalites. I also believe if Russia gives the green light.. 3-4 missiles will follow its target into the runway.

You can call me Al

Oh I assumed you were going to say ” Israel should be debating whether to move their whole Cuntry into California “.

Bob

That involves rationality – Israel under Netanyahu-Likudniks is hard right state & relies on constant domestic fear mongering, over alleged Syria/Iran external threats, to maintain a domestic voter block support.

Jesus

Jews remember very well what happened to their Air Force in 1973, when they recklessly attacked Egyptian positions in Sinai defended by Russian surface to air defenses. They lost almost 1/8th of their airforce in a few days.

Although there will be a centralised command and control system for anti aircraft defence in Syria I am sure that there are ‘override’ systems that enable local control if the main control centre is inoperative for any reason.

Last weeks murder spree by Israel against unarmed Palestinians is another indication that the Khazar child killers are impotent and incandescent with rage about the S300 supplies. :)

Keep it Real

Israel will try to attack from Turkey Jordan or Iraq!

Sinbad2

Yeah probably, or maybe send in some ISIS suicide team to take out the launch sites. That’s what the US did when it invaded Iraq, the US sent in British and Australian SAS troops to take out the launch sites.

Tommy Jensen

I was right again but nobody would listen, alternative media remained silent, and you guys “hoped” as always. “new S-300 centralised to boost security of Russian troops”.

We just call it “Syrian air defence system” and everybody incl TheSaker and the dumb Russian military will eat it…………… while Kremlin is maintaining “relationships with our equal partners”.

ruca

Get in there Tommy boy and show us how it’s done.

Ricky Miller

Oh, yes. This is all about you.

Jens Holm

There will be no foot, if they again shoot themselves in it.

Dies centralize say, that Russians take over all missiles in Syria.

S Melanson

there has been a lot of debate about the implications of the Russian response to the downing of the IL-20 and loss of 15 Russian personnel. This is my take on the implications.

First and foremost, the MoD blamed Israel from day one and has provided a string of statements hostile to Israel in contrast to Putin’s initial conciliatory approach. The hard line taken towards Israel has clearly prevailed with the MoD controlling the narrative with regular announcements by Shoigu, the Russian Defense Minister, on retaliatory steps. It also appears the MoD is making the determination of what retaliatory measures are to be taken.

The key retaliation measures include:

Establishment of a no-fly zone over Syria and Syrian territorial waters – applies to any hostile aircraft regardless of nationality – measures to implement the no fly zone are as follows:

Syria gets S-300 Systems Syria gets additional state of the art short and medium range air defense systems Enhanced management systems that had only been available to the Russian military Centralized – Russian and Syrian systems will be integrated and work together to establish no-fly zone

Implications to consider:

Tudor Miron commented that Russian operatives will be embedded with the new systems. I agree given the advanced systems being provided. If Russian personnel are embedded with the new systems, this presents a problem for Israel attempting to destroy the systems. Israeli jets targeting Syrian air defense systems will put Russians in harms way which could provoke a Russian response.

If Israel does not degrade the air defense systems and attempts to attack Iranian assets in Syria, Israel will face a far more robust air defense system making such missions very risky. Israeli impunity is over as Iran enjoys the benefits of the new systems to protect them from Israeli airstrikes.

Further, integration of air defense systems coupled with Russian personnel embedded with Syrian systems tells me that the no fly zone is being enforced by both Syrian and Russian air defense assets under centralized coordination and control – meaning that the S-400 systems can be considered in play to enforce the no fly zone. Clearly, we are witnessing the establishment of a formidable air defense system in Syria that presents a highly credible deterrent to would-be aggressors.

The Russians are making it very clear that any aircraft that take hostile actions towards Syria do so at their own peril. Israel has stated they will continue striking Syria as before.

Conclusion – Israel and Russia are presently on a collision course and when they collide, all hell will break loose.

Joe

Israel is a joke … Israel got free hand because of Russia Israel without showing power with air power is nothing …. … so Israel cannot boost their superiority now as ground war they are no contest to SAA’s allies.

Big headache for ISrael . Wait for the war in Syria is over, Israel would be trembling.

You can call me Al

“Israel got free hand because of Russia” ????

S Melanson

Not a free hand but, statements by the Russian Defense Minister has made clear there was an understanding between Russia and Israel that was permissive of Israeli strikes on Syria so long as kept within the parameters of the deconfliction arrangement – with 200 Israeli sorties against Syria without serious incident involving Russia (until now), there would have to be some form of understanding. Note that Syrian systems did respond to Israeli provocations although their systems are antiquated.

So yes and no to Russia giving Israel a free hand – Syrian systems were not an effective deterrent and Russia had the means to upgrade Syrian systems but did not do so. It is unfortunate that the S-300 deal with Syria was cancelled at the last minute due to Israeli pressure. So I think Joe has a valid point even if overstated.

Obviously the loss of the IL-20 and 15 Russian personnel was a serious breach given remarks by the Defence Minister and has led to Russian termination of the deconfliction arrangement. That said, better late than never and so now the party is over for Israel. Hopefully Shoigu showed some sympathy and airdropped a few crates of tissues that are soft on the nose to alleviate, the discomfort caused by all the crying and boohooing in NetanYahoo’s office.

Promitheas Apollonious

You are confused or bias. Many here we get pissed off with Putins policies and all this weird partners as he call the, but avoiding to cause a WW3 or trying to, but insinuating that he given free hand to israel to bomb syria you are dead wrong and you have not study the man.

What he does is giving enough rope to the globalists not only israel until they manage to hang themselves, as his war is against the mercenaries west have created with various names and globalization not the victims of it that are the general population of the west, who are not in fault even if they are obedient sheep to the system they live under.

Spit

“Will Be Fully Centralized” Meaning the Russians will retain full control, they are deploying the non export version of the S-300 If the Russians are deploying Serious weapons… this can only mean one thing. The Russians…. Are the Russians going to deploy Heavy industry into Syria? The Russians place heavy weapons into their own terretory by default when Heavy industry is present…. The Russians are going to build up some kind of a Heavy industry in Asyria. Putin is going to actually do this. The Russians are going to rebuild Syria! there is no other explination!

Criticalthinker101

Indeed! https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.globalresearch.ca/russia-is-going-to-start-the-production-of-construction-materials-and-cars-in-syria/5655060/amp

Tommy Jensen

So at least they get cars. Maybe Syria should be happy UN/EU/US refuse aid. This will contribute to continue to make Syria “independent”.

Sinbad2

Western aid is mostly loans. Look at Iraq, billions in aid(loans) but somehow nothing is built. Actually what they call aid, is actually reparations. Iraq has to pay the US and Britain for losing the war, the cost of the invasion, plus interest.

Dušan Mirić

This sounds qute inflexible

Sinbad2

No not at all, there is a lot of redundancy in the system, and if the command post was taken out the units can operate independently. But is does prevent multiple batteries from targeting the same aircraft or missile. Also the command unit can process the data from all radars, and get a much wider and more detailed view of the environment.
