The incident occurred at Fort Bliss, Texas on 20 July
The US Army is investigating an incident at Fort Bliss, Texas, earlier this month in which an M1A2 Abrams tank accidentally fired its main gun at another US tank during live-fire drills.
According to Defence-Blog, the friendly fire incident took place on July 20, while elements of the 1st Armored Division were engaged in a qualification exercise.
The shot was made at 2,600 metres, or more than 1.5 miles, with an M1002 Target Practice Multipurpose Tracer (TPMP-T) round, a practice replica of the M830A1 High Explosive Anti-Tank Multipurpose Tracer (HEAT-MP-T) projectile with the same ballistics profile and a maximum range of 8,000 metres (5 miles). Had it been a real round, it would have produced a jet of molten metal upon contact that would have incinerated the crew.
In a statement to Military Times, officials from the 1st Armored Division confirmed that M1 Abrams accidentally fired on another tank at Fort Bliss.
One soldier was injured, received immediate medical assistance, and is recovering in stable condition, according to Lt. Col. Lindsey Elder, an Army public affairs officer.
1st Armored Division has started an investigation into the incident, Elder said in an email to Military Times.
“Until the investigation is complete, we have no further comment,” she said. LINK
Judging from photos from Instagram user onefattanker that were published by Defence-Blog, the round seems to have struck the tank in the turret. LINK
The M1A2 Abrams is the US military’s primary battle tank, used in the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria. While the terrain around Fort Bliss, which straddles the Texas-New Mexico border, is arid and similar to the Middle Eastern battlefields where the Abrams tank has seen combat, the 1st Armored Division was stationed for decades at Wiesbaden, in central Germany. I would never brag or say that they are the best army at the moment. But they are most definitely very well trained; motivated, disciplined army. You have 2 examples of : 1. special ops soldier that was providing GPS coordinates for Russian bombers for bombardments of terrorist rats. When they have discovered him he fought bravely and than he realized that they are going to caught him because there was too many of them. He has called Russian bombers on his coordinates to get killed just not to be caught by those monkeys. 2. pilot of SU-25 shot down over Idlib parachuted on terrorist territory where he was surrounded quickly. He has fought terrorists bravly and when they got closer he took hand grenade to blow up himself… And not to become prisoner of terrorists.
Those are just examples that Russians (unlike wimpish 60genders Americans) are brave soldiers and are not afraid to die. Russians can get drunk but that is not because of fighting fear or stress from the combat. The discipline in Russian army and conditions in general have improved lot so nobody is drunk and specially not drugged during the combat

I am sure that American soldier motivation to fight and get killed in all this imperialist wars is close to total zero. Thus drugs, alcohol, play most important role.
I know that American wimpish LGBTQ 60genders army has regular use of all kinds of drugs specially in combat situations! They are more danger to themselves than to the enemy. In real combat getting killed from “friendly fire” is bigger possibility than getting killed by enemy. I am trying to say to you politely that I have high suspicion that US – LGBTQ-60genders army is USELESS and incapable to win any war against anybody. And I do that in best of my judgment capacity.

Last bombing on Syria that was coordinated with Russia marked the point that adventurism is iver and was one of their last bigger missions in ME. Not responding at Iranian missiles last winter confirmed the rapid trend. Anyway I’d be happy to see Russia or even China taking their place in ME.
I have news for you. Russia has already her own place in Middle East in Syria. Very good relations with Iran, Iraq and quite good relations with few other Arab countries, diplomatic relations with every Arab country including her enemies Saudi Arabia and Qatar (supporters of terrorism).

Friendly fire? Getting hit by one of those projectiles is the opposite of friendship. I say this is a case of attempted murder. There may be a personal grudge somewhere. Love triangle, insurance money? Nevertheless a shot from 2,600 meters is still a nice shot.
