Kurdish fighters west of Raqqah
The predominantly-Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), backed up by the US-led coalition’s air power and special forces, captured al-Karama village in the eastern countryside of Raqqa following 4 days of intense clashes.
With the capture of the aforementioned town, SDF fighters advancing from the directions of Beer al-Haba’ and Abu al-Khashab met each other effectively uniting both fronts of the US-backed offensive in the area.
Additionally, SDF fighters downed an ISIS armed drone above al-Karama after it had targeted several vehicles.

Several sources embedded in the SDF claimed that the US-backed force is now only 6 kilometers from the Tabqa Military Airport after a successful airborne operation with US Special Forces earlier this week.

The SDF published a statement of one of its commanders declaring the launch of the third phase of Euphrates Wrath Operation. Notably, the SDF receives unlimited aerial support from the fighter jets of the US-led anti-ISIS coalition including A-10 and F-16 warplanes based in Iraq and Apache Helicopters based inside Syria.
I taught SAA will reach Tabqa but unfortunently USA wants to take Raqqa before SAA, maybe SAA should launch offensive from Itryah and go to Raqqa if they have capabilites
Its not possible at the moment they need to get rid of those annoying little rebel pockets then send resources and finish them off elsewhere like in Darra or even Latakia even then they have less manpower and they need to close off as many fronts as they can to move more men. They should focus on only important locations
I’m all for SAA taking the E ghota pocket (but will take some time). It ties up a lot of forces. I think N Latakia should be a defensive front only. They just seem to go back and forth in this rugged terrain and go nowhere.
Nah. ISIS still holds a slew of villages south of Itryah. Their only way out may be the highway that Itryah straddles so the SAA better stay put to keep them in check. Then there’s the ISIS units to the north who are being cut off. Their only remaining route out is between Itryah and Tabqa. Best to leave that open so the USAF and RAF can lay waste to the ISIS convoys trying to escape.
Yes this was the planned operation – three-pronged advance : Northern1. Aleppo east -Deir Hafir – Jirah AB-Euphrates water P/L plant. Central2. SAA immediate tactical objectives were heights directly south of Al HUMORAT LAKE, that is : TELL DURAYMIN and JABAL SHUBAYT (450 m). SAA would set up a gunline (artillery D-30) here to provide indirect fire support to ground elements advancing parallel and south of the wadi which flows west into the lake. From ZABAD to TELL ANZ (380 m) is about 30 000 meters , usually beyond effective range for 122 mm (D-30, BM-21) and 152 mm (D-20) guns so the offensive would need air or SP gun support to reach the N4 (now needed elsewhere) and Lake Assad shores.Southern (3) 555 Brigade Group from Ithriyah NE axis powerlines to Tabqa AB. Unfortunately only the Northern1 was developed so far as SAA had to re-deploy to deefend against well-planned and co-ordinated enemy offensives in Iblib and Hama.

Whaaat? SDF taking Tabka dam and Raqqa is just a fact on the ground. SAA front lines are to far away to make a difference. I don’t think the Kurds have any interest in trying to hold this mostly Sunni territory after SAA arrives.

SDF has alread stated they will hand over the region, not to SAA but to a local military council, like they did in Manbij. My expectation is that it will then be replaced by a local civilian council and that that council, after time, will opt to join the Northern Syrian Federal state. Do not forget, SDF is multi-ethnic, not kurdish.
