The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on March 14 that their units had foiled two ISIS counter-attacks in the middle Euphrates River Valley in the last 24 hours.
According to the US-backed group, a large number of terrorists, including many suicide bombers, participated in the counter-attacks, which were focused on two fronts. The clashes lasted for several hours, but in the end SDF fighters managed to hold onto their positons with support from US-led coalition warplanes.
The SDF’s press center said that ISIS lost 112 fighters during the failed attacks. Most of these terrorists were killed by US-led coalition warplanes, which conducted over 55 airstrikes to support U.S. allies on the ground.
After the failure of the attacks, hundreds of civilians and ISIS fighters surrendered to the SDF. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) didn’t provide exact numbers. However, it said that more terrorists will leave the last ISIS stronghold in the upcoming hours.
The remaining terrorists are currently trapped inside a small camp north of the town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani. In the last few days, the SDF managed to capture few meters inside the camps. However, most of the camp is still under ISIS control.
Kurdish sources said that most of the remaining terrorists are hiding in a complex network of tunnels that was dug under the camp. This could allow these terrorists to fight for weeks to come.
I thought yesterday SDF claimed to have captured 3000 of the 300 ISIS remaining. :D
